  1. 1. Analysis of Atmospheric Muon Bundles with IceCube

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Anna Selina Neyer; [2024]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This work is a preliminary study of the background of a search for dark, long-lived particles in the IceCube detector. The high flux of atmospheric muons in IceCube is considered background to the detector's primary science goal, which is to detect astrophysical neutrinos through the emission of Cherenkov radiation. 2. 2. Statistical analysis of LDMX data

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Noah Ritter; [2023]
    Keywords : LDMX; dark matter; light dark matter; statistics; hypothesis testing; ROOT; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis explores a statistical framework for analysing LDMX data. It uses pre-built functions in the ROOT framework to calculate likelihoods and confidence levels (CL). READ MORE

  3. 3. Determining the alignment of Solar Orbiter instruments STIX and EUI during solar flares

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutet för rymdfysik, Uppsalaavdelningen

    Author : Sofia Tynelius; [2022]
    Keywords : Solar flares; the Sun; STIX; EUI; alignment; pointing;

    Abstract : Solar Orbiter is a mission launched in 2020 that will take images closer than ever of the Sun. It has ten instruments on board, including The Spectrometer/Telescope for Imaging X-rays (STIX) and The Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI). READ MORE

  4. 4. Radiative Corrections Beyond the Soft-Photon Approximation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Jacob Lindahl; [2021]
    Keywords : Soft-Photon Approximation; Bremsstrahlung Correction; Transition Form Factor; Radiative Corrections; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis calculates the bremsstrahlung correction beyond the soft-photon approximation for the decay ω → π0 l+ l- . The effect of the radiative corrections on the extraction of the transition form factor from data is investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dark Photon decay generated by muons in the SHiP experiment

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för materialvetenskap

    Author : Elizaveta Yakovleva; [2020]
    Keywords : dark matter; particle physics; particle accelerators; new physics;

    Abstract : This project has investigated the muon background of the SHiP experiment to determine whether it can boost the experiment sensitivity to visible Dark Photon decay. Using Fermi-Weizsäcker-Williams approximation to muon scattering we found the probability of muons generating massive photons, using Bremsstrahlung and direct lepton pair production as an estimation of the frequency of muon EM-interactions.
