  1. 1. Estimating historic ranges of extinct scavenging birds from North America during the late Pleistocene using co-occurrence data from the fossil record

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Melissa Miranda; [2023-06-30]
    Keywords : Scavenging birds; Vultures; Co-occurrence Data; Range Estimates; Spatial Autoregressive Models; Co-extinction;

    Abstract : The aim of my study was to estimate and compare the historic range of nine scavenging birds from North America that went jointly extinct with their mammalian megafaunal prey in the Late Pleistocene. Although the severity and timing of their co-extinction are strongly correlated, there has been little analytical support in providing estimates for the possible geographic distribution of scavenging birds prior to the extinction event. 2. 2. Development of a Novel Heterogeneous Distance Measure with Enhanced Treatment of Ordinal Features

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för data- och systemvetenskap

    Author : Elina Zake; Salam Hilmi; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The rapid generation of data from various sources has led to the emergence of Big Data, characterized by heterogeneity in terms of different types of variables. Machine learning approaches have been utilized to deal with this data, but there is a lack of uniformity in the application of distance measures for this type of data. READ MORE

  3. 3. CONNECTING THE DOTS : Exploring gene contexts through knowledge-graph representations of gene-information derived from scientific literature

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Henrietta Hellberg; [2023]
    Keywords : Knowledge graph construction; Information extraction; Knowledge Graphs; Next-Generation Sequencing; Gene contextualization; Kunskapsgrafkonstruktion; Informationsextraktion; Kunskapsgrafer; Next-Generation Sequencing; Kontextualisering av gener;

    Abstract : Analyzing the data produced by next-generation sequencing technologies relies on access to information synthesized based on previous research findings. The volume of data available in the literature is growing rapidly, and it is becoming increasingly necessary for researchers to use AI or other statistics-based approaches in the analysis of their datasets. 4. 4. Non-suicidal Self-injury and Depressive Symptoms: Identifying Transdiagnostic Mechanisms among Swedish Adolescents

    University essay from Örebro universitet/Institutionen för beteende-, social- och rättsvetenskap

    Author : Jezper Ekman; Leon Oldermark; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Non-suicidal self-injury and depressive symptoms both increase during adolescence. Although conditions for co-occurrence have been studied, no research has examined clinical levels concurrent with comorbidity during adolescence. READ MORE

  5. 5. Co-occurring Cold Extremes in North America and Unusually Warm Weather in Europe

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Petros Stergiou; [2023]
    Keywords : Extreme temperature events co-occurrence; cold spells; warm extremes; Europe; North America; Pan-Atlantic atmospheric teleconnections; Samtidiga extrema temperaturhändelser; kalla extrema; varma extrema; Europa; Nordamerika; Pan-Atlantiska atmosfäriska telekopplingar;

    Abstract : In this project, we identified and examined the 50 coldest extreme temperature eventsin North America (CENA) and the 50 warmest extreme temperature events insouthwestern Europe (WEEU) during the winter seasons from 1948 to 2023. For theanalysis, we utilized daily NCEP-NCAR reanalysis data for temperature, sea levelpressure (SLP), and 500hPa geopotential height (Z500). READ MORE
