  1. 6. Tool wear in turning titanium alloys

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

    Author : Magnus Johansson; [2015]
    Keywords : Titanium machining; Tool wear; Crater wear; Turning; WC Co cutting tool;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, performed at AB Sandvik Coromant, wear and tool life of uncoated WC/Co grades have been investigated during longitudinal turning of the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. Due to titanium’s poor thermal conductivity and high chemical reactivity towards most metals, high temperature is achieved between the tool and workpiece material, resulting in high tool wear rates. 2. 7. Relations between the performance of a coated cutting tool and the composition and properties of the wear resistant coating : A study including first principles modeling, mechanical properties and technological testing

    University essay from Materialteori; Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

    Author : Maria Bryngelsson; [2013]
    Keywords : Thin film; coating; wear; density functional theory; first principles; ab initio; turning;

    Abstract : This thesis work was performed at AB Sandvik Coromant and aimed to enhance the knowledge about the relationships between the performance of TiN and TiAlN-coated cutting tools in metal turning and their mechanical and chemical properties. Measurements of coating material properties and turning wear tests in annealed tool steel Sverker 21, stainless steel 316L, grey cast iron V314 and nodular cast iron SS0727 were performed. READ MORE

  3. 8. Tool wear in titanium machining

    University essay from Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

    Author : Stina Odelros; [2012]
    Keywords : Tool wear; titanium machining; WC Co cutting tool; tool wear prediction; cutting temperature;

    Abstract : The present work was performed at AB Sandvik Coromant as a part in improving the knowledge and understanding about wear of uncoated WC/Co cutting tools during turning of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. When machining titanium alloys, or any other material, wear of the cutting tools has a huge impact on the ability to shape the material as well as the manufacturing cost of the finished product.
