    Abstract : The present paper examines contributions of corporate responsibility to respect human rights —outlined in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights— to eradication of the problem of workplace discrimination in Myanmar, a developing country in Southeast Asia undergoing a transition from an authoritative military rule to a civil democratic government. Based on the analysis of the national regulatory framework, the international human rights instruments, the business, political and social environment in Myanmar, the human rights record and the evidence derived from an empirical study into workplace discrimination, the thesis examines whether the corporate responsibility to respect human rights may be an effective way to tackle workplace inequalities in the country, and whether it can contribute to the development in Myanmar.
