  1. 1. Development of a qPCR method for detection and quantification of Ustilago nuda and COX1 gene in Barley seeds

    University essay from Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för biovetenskap

    Author : Umer Shaukat Ali; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Barley loose smut caused by the fungal pathogen Ustilago nuda is a global concern with detrimental effects on barley production. Early detection of this infection is vital for effective disease supervision. However, current seed health testing protocols suffer from limitations in terms of time and efficiency. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spruce associated Porodaedalea species distribution in Sweden

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Monica Guilera Recoder; [2022]
    Keywords : Fungi; Genetics; Porodaedalea;

    Abstract : Wood-inhabiting fungi have very important roles in the ecosystem in the degradation of dead wood by acting respectively as parasites and saprotrophs in boreal forests. Porodaedalea chrysoloma is a wood-decay parasite poroid fungi that is considered a key species in the old growth boreal forests. Due to forestry its habitat is declining. READ MORE

  3. 3. Growth and biodegradation by Sporidiobolales yeasts in vanillin-supplemented medium

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Avdelningen för arbets- och folkhälsovetenskap

    Author : Natalia González Gaarslev; [2017]
    Keywords : Sporobolomyces; Vanillin; Internal Transcribed Spacer ITS ; Thin layer chromatography TLC ; Neubauer’s chamber; Sporobolomyces; Vainillina; Espaciador Transcribible Interno ETI ; Cromatografia en capa fina CCF ; Cámara de Neubauer;

    Abstract : Studies of biodegradation in lignins by basidiomycetes yeasts show the conversion of lignin in various degradation products among which vanillin, a valuable substance, suggested to be a strong inhibitor of both fermentation and growth of yeasts, stands. Sporidiobolales yeasts used in these experiments were aimed to be identified by their highly conserved ITS region as well as studied in vanillinsupplemented medium through, vanillin-supplemented plates, TLC and Neubauer’s chamber to find out which, among the several isolates tested, were the most resistant ones, understand how they take up vanillin and how their growth is affected by the presence of the phenolic compound. 4. 4. Genotypic variation of Puccinia graminis infecting barberry and grasses

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Karolina Jörgensen; [2016]
    Keywords : Puccini graminis; population biology; barberry; Berberis spp.; phylogeny; small sequence repeats;

    Abstract : Stem rust on cereals is a large problem in parts of the world, and it may reduce the yields significantly. It is caused by Puccinia graminis, a heteroecious basidiomycete with 365 known telial host grass species. Puccinia graminis reproduces asexually on the grass host. READ MORE

  5. 5. Extracting fungal DNA from drill- and biofilm samples from wood in logs

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology

    Author : Niklas Wickander; [2016]
    Keywords : lichen; DNA-extraction; ITS-region; barcode;

    Abstract : The fungal kingdom is a large group of eukaryotic organisms consisting of more than 100 000 known and an expected number of more than 1 million species with a wide variety of lifestyles. Among these lifestyles is a symbiotic lifestyle that has been of importance for lichen forming fungi. READ MORE
