  1. 1. A European Material Kuznets Curve

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Pyry Järvinen; Emil Fernström; [2023]
    Keywords : Material Kuznets Curve; Environmental Kuznets Curve; Economic Growth; Economics Development; Material Footprint; Emissions; Sustainable Growth; Decoupling; Europe;

    Abstract : This bachelor thesis investigates the correlation between 28 European countries’material footprints (MF), as proxied by their Raw Material Consumption (RMC)per capita, and the environmental impact indicated by their carbon dioxide (CO2)emissions per capita, respectively, with their economic development, measured bytheir purchase power parity adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) per capita,during the period of 2008 to 2019. Specifically, through the theoretical frameworkof the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) and by utilizing Fixed EffectsOrdinary Least Squares regression models as well as Pooled Mean Groupestimation, the thesis asks whether or not evidence can be found for the possibleexistence of an EKC, an inverted-U shaped relationship between environmentaldegradation and economic development, within this European context. 2. 2. The regional test of relationship between economic growth and CO2 emissions : --Evidence from Chinese provinces

    University essay from Jönköping University/Internationella Handelshögskolan

    Author : Thoth Mo; Weibin Wang; [2023]
    Keywords : EKC; high-income provinces; low-income provinces; Inverted U-shaped relationship; turning point;

    Abstract : This thesis has investigated the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve in the provinces of China which assumes the increase in GDP per capita (income per capita) would generate the raise of CO2 emissions (pollution) until a turning point in which CO2 emissions start decreasing. The study includes 30 provinces over a period spanning from 2000 to 2019 by applying OLS and Fixed-effects regression model with panel data. READ MORE

  3. 3. Beyond the Turning Point: The Environmental Kuznets Curve for CO2 Emissions in Romania

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomi

    Author : Mara Balasa; [2022]
    Keywords : environmental Kuznets curve; autoregressive distributed lag; Granger causality; Romania;

    Abstract : This thesis studies the long-run relationship between environmental degradation measured by carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per capita and economic growth measured by gross domestic product per capita in Romania, between 1968 and 2018. The study is conducted using the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) framework and the autoregressive distributed lag bounds test for cointegration. READ MORE

    Abstract : The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2018 highlights the importance of short-lived greenhouse gasses to combat global warming. This study explores the relationship between Gross Domestic Product per capita and methane per capita. READ MORE

  5. 5. Georgian Environmental Kuznets Curve: An Appropriate Estimation.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Farahim Suleymanli; [2022]
    Keywords : Environmental Kuznets Curve; integrated processes; Planetary Boundary; Environmental Degradation Index; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : Empirical EKC literature has conceptual flaws that arise due to the inclusion of polynomials and cointegrating relationships of powers of integrated processes. Additionally, previous studies focused on a narrow nexus between environmental degradation and economic growth that yield only a partial EKC. READ MORE
