  1. 1. Studies of the PMWE : Polar Mesosphere Winter Echoes

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för system- och rymdteknik

    Author : Simon Persson; [2022]
    Keywords : Polar; Mesosphere; Winter; Echoes; ESRAD; Infrasound; PMWE; PMSE; Summer; Radar; VHF; MST; MLT; SPE; HSS; Solar; Wind; evanescent; viscosity; FCA; 42;

    Abstract : This Master thesis examines a phenomenon that occurs in the upper polar atmosphere, namely, Polar Mesospheric Winter Echoes, or PMWEs. PMWEs are radar echoes observed by Very High Frequency Mesosphere Stratosphere Troposphere (VHF MST) radar, from altitudes of 60 to 76 km at 7 to 15 UT, in the winter months from the middle of September to the beginning of May. 2. 2. On the Relationship Between Energetic Electron Precipitation and Mesopause Temperature

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Florine Enengl; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Energetic Particle Precipitation (EPP) can potentially change the neutral atmospheric temperatureat the mesopause region. Cresswell-Moorcock et al. (2013) used European IncoherentScatter Scientific Association (EISCAT) radar data to identify strong electron precipitationevents. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time dependence of average structure size and precipitation energy in pulsating aurora

    University essay from KTH/Rymd- och plasmafysik

    Author : Karl Bolmgren; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pulsating aurora is low intensity aurora appearing in limited structures with quasiperiodicalmodulations in intensity. The highly energetic electron precipitation associatedwith pulsating aurora has been shown to cause chemical changes as far downas the mesosphere, causing ozone depletion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interaction between Metallic Microparticles and Mesospheric Plasma

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Hannes Lindström; Michael Nivala Fernberg; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : SCRAP is a student experiment that aims to validate theories on electron density fluctuations induced by the presence of dust particles connected to the phenomenon of polar mesospheric summer echoes (PMSE). Radar echoes are to be measured from a dust cloud of metallic microparticles released into the mesosphere above northern Sweden using a sounding rocket in spring 2015. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microparticle Ejection and Electromagnetic Scattering in the SCRAP Experiment

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Linnea Persson; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This Bachelor Thesis is done within the project SCRAP (SCattering of Radar Waves on Aerosols in Plasmas), which aims to investigate the role of microparticles in the mesosphere. A sounding rocket is to be launched in spring of 2015 containing the experiment. READ MORE
