  1. 6. Spherically Symmetric Gravitational Collapse

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Lucas Bring; [2021]
    Keywords : gravitational collapse; gravitation; general relativity; black hole; Schwarzschild coordinates; Gullstrand-Painleve coordinates; Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric; finite-time collapse; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a derivation of the equation of motion of particles in a dust star, as it undergoes collapse. This is done by finding exact solutions to the Einstein field equations. We follow the original work by Oppenheimer and Snyder, starting from the general spherically symmetric metric in comoving coordinates. READ MORE

  2. 7. The two-Higgs-doublet modelas an explanation for the muon (g−2) discrepancy

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Zenny Wettersten; [2020]
    Keywords : Beyond Standard Model; BSM; CP violation; Higgs Physics; two Higgs doublet model; 2hdm; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The general Z2-violating two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) is analysed as an explanation for the discrepancy between Standard Model predictions and experimental measurements of the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment ∆aµ, with the condition that it does not provide an electron electric dipole moment |eEDM| larger than experimental bounds. Several point studies of individual 2HDM parameter space points are made to show large-scale cancellation among Barr-Zee 2-loop contributions to |eEDM| at large Yukawa lepton sector magnitudes, as well as an approximately linear growth of total aµ contribution when those magnitudes are rescaled by a common factor, reaching the same order as ∆aµ. 3. 8. Relativistic Visualizations

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Andreas Ringstam; [2020]
    Keywords : Special relativity; Visualization; see; observe;

    Abstract : Special relativity is an area of physics that is abstract and consists of concepts and effects that is hard to link to everyday experience. From a learning perspective, that is problematic as we form new knowledge by linking it to old experiences. One approach to experience a relativistic environment is through computer simulations. 4. 9. B-plane orbital resonance analysis and applications

    University essay from KTH/Rymdteknik

    Author : Alessandro Masat; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Many space engineering and orbital mechanics applications seek for the usage of focused mathematical models, capable of providing useful insight onto particular phenomena or exploiting some theoretical and physical tools to reduce the computational costs and/or increase the level of accuracy reached. Orbital resonances are one of the phenomena that needs to be properly modelled, both for exploiting such features in the mission design phase and to predict possible resonant returns of threatening objects closely approaching a specified planet. 5. 10. Spacetime as a Hamiltonian Orbit and Geroch's Theorem on the Existence of Fermions

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Viktor Bergstedt; [2020]
    Keywords : 3 1; ADM; black hole; canonical quantization; Cauchy surface; causality; differential geometry; Einstein-Hilbert action; general relativity; Geroch; globally hyperbolic; Hamilton s equations; numerical relativity; parallelizable; SL 2; C ; spacetime; spinor; spin structure; SO 1; 3 ; Stiefel-Whitney class; tetrad; topology;

    Abstract : Over a century since its inception, general relativity continues to lie at the heart of some of the most researched topics in theoretical physics. It seems likely that the coveted solutions to problems like quantum gravity are to be found in an extension of general relativity, one which may only be visible in an alternate formulation of the theory.
