  1. 1. Studying Elliptic Flow in High Centrality Pb-Pb Collisions using Proton Collision Background Fitting

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Philip Fredholm; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this report, the elliptic flow in high centrality Pb-Pb collisions is calculated using two particle correlations $v_2\{2\}$ but without any imposed separation in η with data taken from the ALICE experiment at CERN in 2015. Instead, measurements of the same correlations in proton-proton collisions is used as a background to account for non-flow effects and data is correlated between the time projection chamber and the forward multiplicity detectors in order to avoid intra-jet correlations. 2. 2. Developing a test procedure for neutron detection/non detection using a Small TPC Prototype

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Nicholai Mauritzsson; [2016]
    Keywords : Time Projection Chamber; TPC; neutron; anti-neutron; Gas Electron Multiplier; ALTRO; Readout electronics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This work relates to the proposed n-nbar experiment at ESS and covers a procedure with which future neutron research can be made using a small TPC prototype. Settings for the GEM amplification voltage supply and main drift field across the chamber have been established using minimum ionizing cosmic muons as a reference. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cooling in the ALICE detector

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad termodynamik och kylteknik

    Author : Ylva Almén; [2015]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : At CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva, Switzerland, a new modern particle accelerator called the LHC, Large Hadron Collider, is being projected. One of the four large detectors of the LHC, ALICE, consists of many sub-detectors. Temperature stability in ALICE is of great importance for the experiments performed here. READ MORE

  4. 4. Search for azimuthal anisotropic flow in proton-proton collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Adam Johansson; [2015]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In high energy heavy ion collisions a new state of matter called quark gluon plasma is produced. An important observable is azimuthal anisotropy flow. Data from the ALICE experiment is used in the search for azimuthal anisotropic flow in pp collisions, at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7$ TeV. p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of a Time Projection Chamber for a linear experiment : optimization of the readout electronics

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Ted Lind; [2012]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The field of particle physics is ever evolving. With the recent advent of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) it is possible that the long sought for Higgs boson is detected. While this is not certain even if it is found it is likely that it will need more precise methods of investigation. READ MORE
