  1. 6. Requirements for Modelling WUI Fire Evacuation by Unconventional Means

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Rona Tyler; [2021]
    Keywords : WUI fire; evacuation modelling; wildfire; evacuation; traffic modelling; pedestrian modelling; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Wildfires pose a significant safety issue, especially when they interact with urban areas, known as wildland urban interface (WUI) fires. As wildfire numbers are rising and developments near wildlands are increasing, there is an increased need to model all types of evacuation in order to prepare and inform evacuating authorities and evacuees. 2. 7. Testing the wildland urban interface fire evacuation tool WUI-NITY: A case study of a rural community

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Afroza Mallick; [2021]
    Keywords : WUI-NITY; fire evacuation tool; evacuation; wildland-urban interface.; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis makes use of a freely available platform based on multi-physics simulations, named WUI-NITY, to model WUI fire evacuation. This simulation platform includes three sub-models addressing fire spread, pedestrian movement and traffic movement allowing the representation of their interaction to produce outputs useful for dynamic vulnerability assessment. 3. 8. A virtual reality experiment on driving speed in smoke during a wildfire evacuation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Niklas Wetterberg; [2020]
    Keywords : VR; Driving; Speed Choice; Wildfire; WUI; Virtual Reality; Smoke; Evacuation; Reduced Visibility; Driving Simulation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how individual driving behaviour during an evacuation is affected by the presence of smoke on the evacuation route. The thesis aims are to determine a correlation between the choice of speed and the density of the smoke, determine if there is a difference in choice of speed in relation to the previously driven road segment (in thicker or thinner smoke), and determine if the road positioning (specifically the lateral position in the cross section) is dependent on the smoke density. 4. 9. Evacuation behaviour intentions based on the summer 2018 Swedish forest fire season

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Johanna Hahlin; [2019]
    Keywords : Behaviour; Bushfire; Evacuation; Evacuation behaviour; Fires in Sweden 2018; Forest fire; Forest fire evacuation; Questionnaire; Survey; Wildfire; Wildfire evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A large number of forest fires occurred in Sweden during the summer 2018 on a total area of 21 000 hectares. Between 300 and 500 residents were evacuated from their home due to these fires. This situation was unfamiliar in Sweden at the time, and the routines for dealing with such crisis were challenged. 5. 10. A review of traffic models for wildland-urban interface wildfire evacuation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Albin Bergstedt; [2018]
    Keywords : Wildfire; wildfire evacuation; WUI evacuation; evacuation modelling; evacuation behavior; wildland urban interface; large-scale evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Recent years have seen an increased prevalence of wildfires, some of which has spread into the wildland-urban interface and lead to large-scale evacuations. Large-scale evacuations gives rise to both logistical and traffic related issues. READ MORE
