  1. 21. Best practice of extracting magnetocaloric properties in magnetic simulations

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Materialteori

    Author : Johan Bylin; [2019]
    Keywords : Magnetocaloric effect; Thermodynamics; Statistical mechanics; Monte Carlo simulations; Metropolis algorithm; Wang-Landau method; Isothermal change in entropy; Adiabatic change in temperature; Numerical methods; Effective spin models;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a numerical study of simulating and computing the magnetocaloric properties of magnetic materials is presented. The main objective was to deduce the optimal procedure to obtain the isothermal change in entropy of magnetic systems, by evaluating two different formulas of entropy extraction, one relying on the magnetization of the material and the other on the magnet's heat capacity. 2. 22. Charge transport in a Hubbard-Holstein junction: Preliminary results from a DFT approach.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Eric Ceccarelli; [2019]
    Keywords : Density functional theory; DFT; Hubbard-Holstein; Hubbard-Holstein model; HH; Quantum transport; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Many-body systems are extremely complicated to describe due to mutual interactions between the constituent particles. This is for example the case of systems with electron-electron (e-e) and electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions. READ MORE

  3. 23. Geometric Phases in Classical and Quantum Systems

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Simon Godskesen; [2019]
    Keywords : Berry s phase; geometric phase;

    Abstract : We are accustomed to think the phase of single particle states does not matter. After all, the phase cancels out when calculating physical observables. However, the geometric phase can cause interference even in single particle states and can be measured. READ MORE

  4. 24. AA-CAES physical modelling: integration of a 1D TES code and plant performance analysis

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Luca Santo; [2018]
    Keywords : energy storage; balancing; grid; AA-CAES; CAES; peaks; energy scenarios; s-function; simulink; simscape; matlab; C ; TES; thermal energy storage; dumping; demand side management; power systems; turbine; compressor; cavern; CAS; compressed air; heat exchange;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis work was the development of an approachto couple a previosly existing Thermal Energy Storage (TES) modelwritten in C++ with a Simulink/Simscape plant model to simulate anAdvanced Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (AA-CAES) plant.After the creation and validation of such tool, the complete modelwas used to run simulations, with the aim of assessing the AA-CAESplant's performance under multiple patterns of charge anddischarge. 5. 25. The impact of turbulence on supernovae shockwaves

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Loke Lönnblad Ohlin; [2018]
    Keywords : astrophysics; astronomy; supernovae; shockwaves; interstellar medium; massive stars; turbulence; molecular clouds; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The momentum and energy injection from supernovae is one of the main feedback modes, and is therefore key to the understanding of galaxy evolution and star formation. However, due to low resolution, large scale galaxy simulations often have issues with accurately modelling supernovae, and therefore rely on sub-grid models. READ MORE
