  1. 1. Feasibility of Enhanced Geothermal Systems in the Precambrian crystalline basement in SW Scania, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Hanna Kervall; [2021]
    Keywords : EGS; deep drilling; geothermal; petrology; petrophysical properties; Sveconorwegian; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The ability to evaluate the geothermal potential at a depth of five to six kilometres in the crystalline bedrock is crucial for the EGS-technology to be utilized in the future. This work focuses primarily on presenting expected geological conditions at great depths in southwestern Scania. The study is based on information from E. READ MORE

  2. 2. Garnet amphibolite in the internal Eastern Segment, Sveconorwegian Province : monitors of metamorphic recrystallization at high temperature and pressure during Sveconorwegian orogeny

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Tove Hernnäs; [2018]
    Keywords : Sveconorwegian; metamorphic petrology; mapping; coronitic metagabbro; microtextures; Eastern Segment; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The analyzed area exposes a deep underthrusting lower plate of the Sveconorwegian orogen and facilitates studying of an elsewhere hidden portion of the Earth. Petrographic and structural studies of different metamorphic rock types within the southern Eastern Segment, Sveconorwegian Province, Sweden, were carried out to better understand the regional metamorphism and deformation history. 3. 3. Pressure-Temperature-time Constraints on the Deep Subduction of the Seve Nappe Complex in Jämtland and southern Västerbotten, Scandinavian Caledonides

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Johanna Holmberg; [2017]
    Keywords : Seve Nappe Complex; COSC-1; Raman spectroscopy; QuiG barometry; kyanite-garnet gneiss; Lu-Hf garnet geochronology; Seveskollan; COSC-1; Raman spektroskopering; QuiG barometri; kyanit-granatförande gnejs; Lu-Hf granat geokronologi;

    Abstract : The Scandinavian Caledonides are defined by long transported thrust sheets emplaced in a nappe stratigraphic succession onto the Paleozoic Baltica platform, as a result of the collision between the paleo-continents Baltica and Laurentia. This Palaeozoic collisional orogen is nowadays exposed at mid-crustal levels, thus provides an excellent ground for in situ studies of mountain building processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Säm fold structure : characterization of folding and metamorphism in a part of the eclogite–granulite region, Sveconorwegian orogen

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Stephen Michalchuk; [2013]
    Keywords : anatexis; high-T granulite; interference folds; polydeformation; Sveconorwegian orogen; SW Sweden; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Structural and petrological studies on complexly folded mafic and felsic layered sequences have been mapped in the parautochthonous basement of the Sveconorwegian Province, Sweden. Three deformation phases (D1, D2, D3)involving at least two fold phases (F2, F3) and two lineation phases (L2, L3) characterize a polyphase fold, which is primarily defined by a migmatized and highly competent garnet amphibolite. 5. 5. Amphibolites, structures and metamorphism on Flekkerøy, south Norway

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Ina Vang; [2011]
    Keywords : amphibolite; structures; metamorphism; bedrock; Flekkerøy; southern Norway; Kristiansand; amfibolit; strukturer; metamorfos; berggrund; södra Norge; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The island of Flekkerøy outside Kristiansand, southern Norway, consists of meta-greywacke, amphibolitic gneiss, granitic gneiss, tonalitic gneiss, hornblenditic mafite, pegmatite and metadolerite. The oldest rocks were probably formed around 1.5 Ga in an arc environment. During the Sveconorwegian orogeny, 1. READ MORE
