  1. 1. Characterization of an unknown amyloid fibril protein

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Elin Persson; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Amyloidosis is a group of diseases where misfolded proteins aggregate in the body. These aggregates are called amyloid and today there are 37 different known amyloid proteins. Diagnosis of amyloidosis is done by Congo Red staining to find amyloid, and typing with immunohistochemistry together with mass spectrometry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fluorescent molecules as probes for characterization of amyloid β fibrils

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Denisse Marginean; Ebba Hellstrand; [2021]
    Keywords : Alzheimer s disease; amyloid beta; amyloid; fluorescent probes; fluorescent ligands;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia in the world and the World Health Organization has recognized AD as a global public health priority. One of the pathological hallmarks of AD is amyloid plaques formed from amyloid β (Aβ) fibrils. Aβ is formed when amyloid precursor protein is cleaved by secretase enzymes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Behavioral Effects of Amyloid Precursor Protein beta Mutation in zebrafish

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Author : Joynab Sultana; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Amyloid precursor protein beta (βAPP) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. An appb mutant strain of zebrafish has been previously generated and has shown increased boldness. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantifying soluble isoforms of amyloid precursor protein in cerebrospinal fluid with a SRM-MS based assay ─ method development

    University essay from Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi; Tekniska högskolan

    Author : Elin Lindström; [2013]
    Keywords : Alzheimer’s disease; mass spectrometry; proteomics; APP; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s is a widespread neurodegenerative disease, growing larger and larger in the world. Once developed, the disease has no cure. To this day, there is only mitigating drugs. To be able to start this treatment rapidly, a method to distinguish healthy individuals from prospective Alzheimer’s diseased needs to be developed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Olfactory performance and neuropathology in the Tg6799 strain of Alzheimer’s disease model mice

    University essay from Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Hanna Österman; [2010]
    Keywords : 5xFAD; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid precursor protein; amyloid β; cognitive impairment; olfactory deficit.;

    Abstract : The present study evaluated olfactory and cognitive abilities of the Tg6799 (also called 5xFAD) strain of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) model mice of two different age groups (2-3 and 8-10 months of age), and one group of healthy control mice (9-10 months). Employment of an operant conditioning paradigm using an automated olfactometer, an olfactory habituation/dishabituation test and a spatial learning test with non olfactory cues resulted in data showing that the 5xFAD mice develop olfactory impairments already at 2-3 months of age.
