  1. 1. Separation and acidification of digested animal manure : properties of the future organic fertilizers

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Author : Marie Björs; [2023]
    Keywords : Digestate; Eutrophication; Farmers’ survey; Plasma activation; Screw press;

    Abstract : Agricultural areas with a high animal density contribute to eutrophication in waterbodies and seas worldwide due to accumulation of nutrients around animal farms. Animal manure is heavy and bulky, thus unpractical to transport long distances and new techniques have been developed to refine animal manure and make it easier to transport. READ MORE

  2. 2. Applicering av kväve i fast och flytande form : effekt på växttillgänglighet i åkermark

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Author : Elizabeth Lövstaf; [2020]
    Keywords : fast gödselmedel; flytande gödselmedel; ammonium; nitrat; ammoniumfixering; regnsimulering;

    Abstract : Kvävegödselmedel är det mest använda gödselmedlet i Sverige till följd av dess goda effekter på en grödas kvalité och avkastning. Tillförsel av kväve (N) görs vanligen i formerna nitrat (NO3-) och ammonium (NH4+), gärna i kombination med andra näringsämnen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nitrogen and phosphorus analysis in field cultivation of Pak choi : effect of two different compositions of fertilisers on plant and soil nutrient status

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Author : Joubin Haji Mirza Ali; [2020]
    Keywords : aged cattle manure; fertilisers; nitrogen; Pak choi; nutrient analysis; phosphorus; retting digest; waste materials;

    Abstract : This pilot study was implemented to reflect the delivery and the plant availability of nitrogen and phosphorus in response to different compositions of fertilisers approved for organic farming in Sweden. The experimental approach was to compare the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus in plant sap of Pak choi plants grown in soil treated with different organic waste such as aged cattle manure and a liquid retting digest derived from the biogas industry, with plants grown in soil treated with a blend of pelleted organic fertilisers derived from the Swedish slaughterhouse industry. 4. 4. Volatile fatty acid production and application as external carbon source for denitrification

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Cora Michelle Döhler; [2020]
    Keywords : VFAs; co-fermentation; primary sludge; food waste; denitrification; external carbon source; MBBR;

    Abstract : By rethinking wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) as resource recovery facilities, it is possible to de- velop the next generation of WWTPs. Moreover, it allows to accomplish environmental goals, such as reducing the CO2 footprint, and comply with increasing effluent standards regarding the concentration of nitrogen in a more sustainable way. 5. 5. Assay of nitrification potentials in sewage sludge : development and evaluation of method, and nitrification potentials in sewage sludge before and after application to soil

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Microbiology

    Author : Caroline Jöngren; [2016]
    Keywords : Sewage sludge; nitrification potentials; PAO; sanitations treatment; ammonium; storage treatments; nitrous oxide; Nitobacteriacea; Nitrosomona;

    Abstract : Sewage sludge (SS) contains valuable plant nutrients applicable to soil as fertilizer. Application to arable land is though controversial as SS can contain contains such as human pathogens, heavy metals and xenobiotics. READ MORE
