  1. 1. Use of the JET pedestal database to assess the role of ion temperature and plasma rotation on the discrepancy between ideal peeling-ballooning model and experimental data

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Max Eichenberger; [2022]
    Keywords : Nuclear fusion; Joint European Torus JET ; H-mode; pedestal; Edge-localized-modes ELMs ; Peeling-Ballooning; relative shift; ion temperature; plasma rotation; Kärnfusion; JET Joint European Torus ; H-läge; piedestal; ELM Edge LocalizedModes ; peeling-ballooning; relativ förskjutning; jontemperatur; plasmarotation;

    Abstract : Next-generation and present fusion devices such as the Joint European Torus (JET) aim for plasma operations in H-mode, a plasma regime with high confinement and low loss of energy and fuel that results from a barrier for heat and particle transport at the plasma edge, the pedestal. Due to steep gradients of the density, temperature and pressure profiles, the pedestal experiences instabilities called Edge-localized-modes (ELMs) which lead to large fluxes of heat and particles that might damage machine components. 2. 2. Effect of a new pedestal width constraint on the pedestal predictions with Europed in JET fusion plasmas

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Eleonora Iurlaro; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : As the whole world is facing and will face further challenges in the future in meeting the energy demand, thermonuclear fusion could be part of a future sustainable energy scenario. However, there are still many problems related to fusion that need to be addressed before implementing fusion energy in fusion power plants. READ MORE

  3. 3. “A feminist subversion of fairy tales” : Écriture féminine, gender stereotypes, and the rejection of patriarchy in Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber

    University essay from Södertörns högskola/Engelska

    Author : Fjola Murati Kurti; [2021]
    Keywords : Fairy tales; Grimm Brothers; Angela Carter; The Bloody Chamber; patriarchal binary oppositions; patriarchal oppression; Écriture féminine; Hélène Cixous; heroine; femme fatale.;

    Abstract : Fairy tales are usually described as short narratives that end with happily-ever-afters, imposing patriarchal ideologies. The Grimm’s fairy tales serve as the foundation of many other stories which promote stereotypes like woman passiveness, submissive beauty, while men are put on a pedestal for being active and violent at the same time. 4. 4. Modeling of the pedestal performance in the DTT tokamak

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Hampus Nyström; [2020]
    Keywords : Fusion; pedestal; DTT;

    Abstract : This master thesis concerns the modeling of the pedestal in the fusion plasma device DTT and its dependence on several plasma parameters. The modeling was performed using the Europed code which is based on the EPED model. Several parameters were found to have a significant impact on the pedestal predictions. READ MORE

  5. 5. MENTAL ILLNESS AND THE TRAUMAS OF APARTHEID A Psychoanalytical Reading of Zoë Wicomb’s Playing in the Light

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för språk och litteraturer

    Author : Nansi Soulakeli Johansson; [2019-09-10]
    Keywords : Wicomb; Mental Illness; Psychoanalysis; Trauma;

    Abstract : Zoë Wicomb’s novel Playing in the Light (2006) critically examines the perilous times of apartheid in South Africa through the condition of play-whites. This thesis particularly focuses on the psychological unrest and traumatic experiences of two characters – Marion Campbell, and her mother, Helen Charles – whose disarrayed mental state is believed to be emblematic of the destructive ramifications of apartheid and the play-white act on the human psyche.
