  1. 6. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Lasse Harkort; [2022]
    Keywords : dissolved organic carbon; machine learning; remote sensing; inland waters; water quality; open source data; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions. 2. 7. Can algorithms translate the world? : A digital discourse analysis of Google Translate’s algorithmic agency in the translation of news reports

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Centrum för tvåspråkighetsforskning

    Author : Luana Candido Fleury; [2022]
    Keywords : Algorithmic agency; translation; bilingualism; Google Translate; U.S. Capitol; critical discourse analysis; recontextualization; appraisal; ideology; Global South.;

    Abstract : Google Translate’s mission is “to enable everyone, everywhere, to understand the world and express themselves across languages” (Pitman, 2021). But are algorithms capable of leading us beyond the translation of the word toward an understanding of the world? Computational linguistics research has been interested in assessing this kind of real-world effects of technology and invited other disciplines to join their effort. 3. 8. Rural Road Improvements and Local Agricultural Intensification: A Remote Sensing Evaluation in Mozambique

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomi

    Author : Jeffrey Clark; Tamina Matti; [2022]
    Keywords : remote sensing; rural road improvements; agricultural output; Mozambique; economic development;

    Abstract : Transaction costs serve as an obstacle to competitive market exchanges in rural and remote areas around the world. Improvements to transportation infrastructure are hypothesized to lower these costs and help alleviate poverty among smallholder farmers. READ MORE

  4. 9. User Experience and Acceptability of a Mixed Reality System for Rehabilitation : From an Occupational- and Physical Therapy Perspective

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för psykologi

    Author : William Åström; William Sahlin; [2022]
    Keywords : mixed reality; rehabilitation; acceptability; user experience; user interface;

    Abstract : The use of Mixed Reality (MR), a technology that attempts to integrate the physical and virtual worlds, is steadily becoming more prevalent in healthcare. To properly integrate new technologies into an organization or workplace, for example in healthcare, a system must first be accepted and used by the individuals for whom it was designed. READ MORE

  5. 10. Evaluation of Refined Tribological Properties of Diamond Coated Cutting Tools Used in Machining of High-Strength Aluminum Alloys : Master thesis report regarding refined frictional & wear behavior of uncoated & CVD diamond coated WC-Co cemented carbide cutting tools used for machining of Al 7xxx alloys.

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Christian Hultman; [2022]
    Keywords : tribology; machining; metal cutting; turning; milling; friction; wear; material transfer; surface technology; tribologi; skärande bearbetning; svarvning; fräsning; friktion; förslitning; nötning; materialöverföring; ytteknologi;

    Abstract : High strength aluminum alloys have for a long time been a popular material utilized in the automotive and aerospace sector due to coveted mechanical properties in terms of weight, strength, fatigue, and corrosion. However, tribological mechanisms such as tribo-film formation and material transfer during the metal cutting manufacturing process of aluminum impose significant reduction of machining and tool-life performance.
