  1. 21. Optimization of a search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons in same-sign di-muon final states at a center of mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Leonora Vesterbacka Olsson; [2015]
    Keywords : Same-sign di-leptons; Beyond Standard Model; Doubly-charged Higgs boson; ATLAS; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this thesis an optimization of a previously performed inclusive search for beyond Standard Model Physics in same-sign di-lepton final states is performed, but tuned for a doubly-charged Higgs boson decaying to same-sign di-muons. The doubly-charged Higgs boson is a proposed fundamental particle whose existence would provide evidence for theoretical extensions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. READ MORE

  2. 22. Transverse Momentum Dependent Soft Function in SCET to NNLO

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Joel Oredsson; [2015]
    Keywords : renormalization; soft collinear effective field theory; SCET; effective theory; NNLO; Higgs; QCD; precision calculations; loop calculations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We review the factorization theorem for the production of a heavy color-neutral final state with a transverse momentum much smaller than its invariant mass in the framework of soft collinear effective field theory (SCET). This phase space region is plagued by large logarithms of widely separated scales, including large logarithms of rapidity ratios, that need to be resummed for sensible results. READ MORE

  3. 23. A new dipole-based jet clustering algorithm

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Toni Sculac; [2014]
    Keywords : jet; algorithm; dipole; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Jet production occurs very often in particle physics experiments, and a very good understanding of how partons evolve into jets has been achieved over the last 30 years. The main tool in jet analysis is jet clustering algorithms, and because the problem of clustering particles back to initial partons can not be solved exactly, many different algorithms have been developed. 4. 24. Studies of a neutral Higgs boson produced in gluon-gluon fusion and vector boson fusion

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Max Isacson; [2014]
    Keywords : neutral; higgs; boson; high energy physics; hep; atlas; lhc; simulation; gluon fusion; vector boson fusion; mechanism;

    Abstract : This paper presents an outline of the generation of mass for the massive Standard Model particles (fermions, $W^\pm$, $Z^0$) through electroweak symmetry breaking via the Higgs mechanism, and how the Higgs boson emerges from this framework. A Monte Carlo study was done on the decay $H\rightarrow\tau\tau$, with one leptonically and one hadronically decaying tau, with two different production channels for the $H$, gluon-gluon fusion (gg) and vector boson fusion (VBF), at $\sqrt s = 7\tev$ with a Higgs mass $m_H = 120\gev$. 5. 25. A Search for Indications of Majorana Neutrinos in Same-sign Dimuon Events at the ATLAS Detector

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Simon Arnling Bååth; [2014]
    Keywords : Majorana Neutrino; ATLAS; Dimuon; Neutrino; LRSM; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Abstract The current Standard Model cannot explain many properties of the neutrino, including its mass. Models exist where a postulated heavy Majorana neutrino will give rise to the observed small neutrino mass currently observed. READ MORE
