Abstract: Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks have become increasingly popular and have become a very successful networking paradigm. Presently P2P network boostup by P2P file sharing programs such as Napster, KaZaA, TV broadcasting etc. As network address translators (NAT) [1] and firewall devices are becoming increasingly ubiquitous and are unavoidable, and they pose a significant problem for connection establishment for peer-to-peer protocols which still in its infancy. P2P applications need to connect to each other, but are increasingly obstructed by NAT boxes. Some popular P2P applications do not address NAT traversal or do so poorly. By taking this factor in consideration, this thesis work attempts to highlight NAT traversal problem in peer-to-peer architectures, analyze di®erent techniques that can be applicable to P2P architectures and then by applying these concepts we have performed experiments and simulations for the viability of the possible solution that will be the most promising and universal which we have discussed in subsequent chapters and later we evaluate our results for the possible adaptation in P2P-IPTV.
