Abstract: Ground based optical observations are limited by weather. One of the possible solutions is using adrone to fly above the clouds. This enables new approaches when planning experiments. The aim ofthis project is to produce and evaluate prototypes of aurora-imaging cameras that will be placed insideof such a drone. Two prototypes have been built and tested. The images taken during testing have beenanalyzed with regards to signal-to-noise ratio and sensitivity to light by using data from a star. Thisproject shows that the prototypes can capture aurora and perform imaging sequences with a setfrequency. There is still work to do in regard to integration with the drone, developing wirelesscommunication with ground equipment and more user friendly software but the prototypes are a greatfoundation for further development.
