XDK on Mobile

Abstract: Today, digital media is getting more and more accessible and adapted to the users. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in developing cross-platform interms of mobile devices. The concept plays an importantrole in the development and maintenance of applications by saving time. Accedo Broadband AB has come up with a cross-platform development framework, called the XDK,for HTML-based platforms like Smart TVs targeting VODapplications. It is currently not possible to use for applications running on mobile devices but it is highly desirable in order to accomplish the vision of build once - deploy on many.This master thesis investigates how the XDK can beintegrated or co-exist with existing cross-platform frameworks for mobile devices of today. The findings suggest thata hybrid application approach is the most suitable one andin order to demonstrate its feasibility a prototype based onPhoneGap was implemented. The prototype was successful both implementation-wise and performance-wise. Furthermore,it is certain to say that HTML is advancing and the mobile devices are progressing, all together paving the way for even better performances.
