  1. 1. Whole-Genome Sequencing of two Swedish Individuals on PromethION

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Examensarbeten i bioinformatik

    Author : Nazeefa Fatima; [2019]
    Keywords : Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Background: Chromosomes can undergo various changes such as deletions, inversions, insertions, and/or translocations resulting in structural variation differences between individuals. Structural variants are a common source of variability in the human genome and have been known to be associated with common diseases such as autism, cancer, and rare human diseases [1, 2]. READ MORE

  2. 2. Energy & redox fluxes in Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 on different sugars

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologi; Lunds universitet/Bioteknik

    Author : Katarzyna Bengtsson; [2019]
    Keywords : Energy; redox fluxes; Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938; different sugars; applied microbiology; teknisk mikrobiologi; Biology and Life Sciences; Chemistry; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Under anaerobic condition the specific growth rate of Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 on different sugars, was analyzed using spectrophotometry. Electron acceptor (fructose) supported cells to cope with poor energy recovery by re-oxidising the NADH, thus enabling ATP formation thru acetate production, while fermenting glucose via the phosphoketolase pathway (PKP) and simultaneously operating via Embden-Meyerhof pathway (EMP). 3. 3. Patterning of the neural tube: A 3D computational modelling approach

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik

    Author : Ariane Ernst; [2019]
    Keywords : gene regulatory networks; neural tube patterning; patterning of the neural tube; dopaminergic neurons; parkinson s disease; computational modelling; stem cell; GRN; Biology and Life Sciences; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s can be treated with stem-cell derived specialized neurons. In order to achieve precise directed neural differentiation in vitro we need to understand the gene regulatory mechanisms behind in vivo neural tube patterning. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Effect of Using DMSO as a Cosolvent for Ligand Binding Studies

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Biofysikalisk kemi

    Author : Simon Birgersson; [2019]
    Keywords : Galectins; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; NMR; Biophysical Chemistry; Relaxation; CPMG; ITC; Biofysikalisk Kemi; Kärnmagnetisk resonans; Technology and Engineering; Chemistry; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : DMSO sees common application as a solvent for studies of synthetic molecules in biological systems, in fields such as drug design. Despite this, the possibility and nature of solvent interactions with both synthetic ligand and their target macromolecules is widely unexamined. READ MORE

  5. 5. Finding a stabilized sequence for reconstructed Icosahedra Lumazine Synthase by random mutagenesis and Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Author : Caroline Olsson; [2019]
    Keywords : Icosahedra; Assembly; Lumazine Synthase; Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting; FACS; Directed evolution; Random mutagenesis; Stability; Structure; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Chemistry; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Lumazine Synthase forms pentamers, C5 in some organism and icodahedra, Ih in other. The aim of this project is to investigate which evolutionary steps could have led the pentamers to assembly into icosahedral capsids. READ MORE
