  1. 1. Investigation of coarse-grid CFD approach for nuclear engineering application

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Michela Casarella; [2023]
    Keywords : Thermal-hydraulics; Nuclear reactor; CFD; Sub-channel; Coarse-grid; Turbulence; Pressure drop; Termisk-hydraulik; kärnreaktor; CFD; underkanal; grovkornigt nät; turbulens; tryckfall;

    Abstract : In this thesis, an innovative coarse grid CFD approach is developed that aims toexploit the capabilities of sub-channel codes and CFD methods while overcoming theirlimitations. In the approach, a very coarse mesh is implemented in the CFD softwareOpenFOAM and a new wall treatment, based on the traditional concept of the wallfunction, is applied to the wall boundary conditions of the domain to take into accountthe low resolution of the grid which does not allow to effectively capture the effect of thesolid walls on the thermo-hydraulics of the flow. 2. 2. Computational Fluid Dynamics of the flow in a diffuser : - like geometry

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Rasmus Johansson Oskarsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Fluid mechanics; Flow simulation; RANS; Flow separation; Diffuser;

    Abstract : Simulations were performed to investigate flow separation of an asymmetricdiffuser - like geometry. The geometry used for the simulations was modeledafter an experimental setup with recorded flow data, which was compared tothe simulated data. For all simulations, steady state flow at the inlet was usedwith the assumption of a 2D flow. READ MORE

  3. 3. The effect of the hyperparameters of an RBF SVM on classifying pneumonia

    University essay from KTH/Datavetenskap

    Author : Rikaz Nismi; Alfred Hoflin; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pneumonia is a deadly disease if gone untreated. In order to treat it, first it has to be discovered, which can be done by examining patterns of chest X-ray images. This process can be done by human experts but there is also a desire to make it more efficient by utilizing machine learning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Land reclamation by reindeer lichens : On the complexity of substrate and reindeer grazing on Cladonia spp. dispersal

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Christine Godeau; [2019]
    Keywords : Artificial dispersal Quartzite quarry; Reindeer lichens; Reindeer winter grazing; Substrate.;

    Abstract : Reindeer lichens are on a dramatic decline in Sweden, with a 71 % decrease in abundance over the last 60 years. Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus L.) management, undertaken by indigenous Sámi people, depend upon extensive winter grazing grounds with abundant reindeer lichen cover. READ MORE

  5. 5. Two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling of overland flow and infiltration in a sustainable drainage system

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; Lunds universitet/Ekosystemteknik (CI)

    Author : Karl Gunnarsson; [2015]
    Keywords : infiltration modeling; MIKE 21; rainfall-runoff modeling; SUDS; urban hydrology; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : As a part of the GrönNano project at Luleå University of Technology, a sustainable drainage system, composed of infiltration surfaces and a wale,has been subject to hydrological measurements and modeling. The aim of this study was to identify the conditions under which it is possible to model the hydrological processes of that system adequately, using the two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling software MIKE 21 equipped with an infiltration and leakage module.
