  1. 6. Using Bulk XRF-Analysis of Chinese Loess to Determine High-Resolution Records of Dust Provenance

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Alexandra Engström Johansson; [2017]
    Keywords : dust; provenance; elemental ratios; Chinese Loess Plateau;

    Abstract : Understanding the sources of the dust that forms the extensive loess deposits on the Chinese Loess Plateau is crucial for reconstructing atmospheric circulation patterns and dust pathways. Dust sources are however highly debated, mainly due to the low resolution of many records and the often ambiguous nature of geochemical proxies. READ MORE

  2. 7. Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating and Last Glacial Climate Reconstruction from the Lingtai Loess Section, Chinese Loess Plateau

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Emma Lagerbäck Adolphi; [2016]
    Keywords : Last Glacial; optical stimulated luminescence dating; Chinese loess plateau; Lingtai; magnetic susceptibility; mass accumulation rate; climate reconstruction;

    Abstract : High resolution dating of loess on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) has increased the understanding of past monsoon climate but also raised questions regarding dust mass accumulation rate (MAR), the presence of disturbances or gaps in the sediment record, a possible teleconnection between North Atlantic and East Asian monsoon climate, and whether these events are due to climate variability, local settings, or age model uncertainties. This study undertakes a detailed (<20cm sampling resolution) -OSL investigation of the Lingtai section to create an independent age model using linear regression, to reconstruct monsoon climate changes using magnetic susceptibility(MS) and grain size (GS) proxies, as well as to calculate MAR for the site. 3. 8. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating of aeolian sediments of Skåne, south Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Rajendra Shrestha; [2013]
    Keywords : Vomb basin; South Sweden; Skåne; Aeolian; Sediments; Grain size; Luminescence; OSL; Chronology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Wind is an important agent of transportation of sediments and to change the landscape. Aeolian sediments can be inferred as a proxy for past climate. In Sweden aeolian sediments are not widespread and there are not so many studies on chronological and paleoenvironmental aspects. READ MORE
