  1. 1. Investigating the potential correlations between metal and metalloid concentrations and soil color : A Minor Field Study on the island province of Marinduque, Philippines

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Ivana Pia Saric Söderholm; Erik Readwin; [2023]
    Keywords : Marinduque; Metal and Metalloid; Nix Pro 2 Color Sensor; Philippines; Soil color; X-Ray Fluorescence XRF ; Filippinerna; Jordfärg; Marinduque; Metall och Metalloid; Nix Pro 2 Color Sensor; Röntgenfluorescens XRF ;

    Abstract : This study was carried out as a bachelor's thesis at KTH Royal Institute of Technology during the spring of 2023, investigating the correlation between the color with the concentration of various metal and metalloids (MMs) in the soil of Marinduque, The Philippines. With a history of mineral exploitation, notably copper and gold, the island has faced persistent environmental challenges, exemplified by the catastrophic waste spills in 1993 and 1996 that contaminated the Boac and Mogpog Rivers. Abstract : Sulphide soils in Sweden are mainly found along the northeast coastline. These soils area characterized by their fine grain size, low shear strength and black, or grey, color. These soils are also found further south, in the Sundsvall area in Västernorrland, but have slightly lower sulphide content there. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spatial patterns of Dissolved Organic Matter in Swedish Surface Waters

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment

    Author : Anna Lackner; [2022]
    Keywords : Dissolved Organic Matter; Brownification; Digital Mapping; Soil Moisture; Stream Length;

    Abstract : Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in surface water has been widely studied, in part due to its significance for aquatic ecology and drinking water quality. Across Sweden, increases in the total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations and color of surface waters, known as brownification, were noted in the decades before and after year 2000, though recent analysis has found widespread DOM increase to have ceased after 2010.
