  1. 1. Deacetylated Hyaluronan : Exploration of deacetylation techniques for hyaluronan (oligo and polysaccharides)

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för materialvetenskap

    Author : Sima Mardini; Hanna Björk; Marcus Möller; Carl Lagergren; Oscar Samuelsson; [2023]
    Keywords : hyaluronic acid; deacetylated hyaluronan; N-deacetylation; re-acetylation; hydrogels;

    Abstract : Hyaluronic acid is an organic polysaccharide with a wide range of uses in medical and cosmetic industries due to its physiological properties. Crosslinked hyaluronic acid is a commonly used filler agent because of its water retention capabilities. N-deacetylation can be performed to enable new derivatives of hyaluronic acid. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis of a polar conjugated polythiophene for 3D-printing of complex coacervates

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Laboratoriet för organisk elektronik; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Author : Johanna Heimonen; [2021]
    Keywords : conjugated polymers; polythiophene; crosslinking; Suzuki polymerization; OMIEC; complex coacervate; water soluble polymer; Kemi; Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to synthesize a functionalized polar conjugated polythiophene that could be (3D-) printed into form-stable structures for bio-interfacing. The material design rationale aimed for a water-processable polymer that had the capability of electronic and ionic conduction, by using a thiophene backbone and oligoethylene side chains. READ MORE

  3. 3. Design, production and evaluation of cross linked target proteins to an affibody-based carrier framework aimed for affinity protein: antigen structure determination using single particle Cryo-EM

    University essay from KTH/Proteinvetenskap

    Author : Richard Brunsell; [2021]
    Keywords : Cryo-EM; Structure determination; Protein A; Affibody; Aldolase; Scaffold; Rigid helix fusion; Photoconjugation; UV crosslinking; BPA;

    Abstract : Small proteins are difficult to study at high resolution with single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). In general, sample properties such as large size (> 80 kDa), symmetry and rigidity are key to utilize this technology. READ MORE

  4. 4. A novel chitosan-stearic coating with bee-pollen microcapsules for corrosion protection

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Albin Andersson; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this project a novel chitosan-stearic acid (CS-SA) coating with bee-pollen microcapsules for encapsulation of 2-mecraptobenzothiazole (MBT) as a waterborne formulation for a biocompatible corrosion protection coating was developed and the coating properties was analyzed. Hydrophobic stearic acid (SA) was crosslinked with via a carbodiimide reaction to form micelles and is assembled on the bee- pollen grains and the chitosan matrix was further self-crosslinked using glutaraldehyde (GA). 5. 5. Injectable, in situ crosslinked hydrogels by Fenton’s Reagent (Fe (II) & H2O2) for corneal perforations

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för medicinsk biokemi och mikrobiologi

    Author : Mehmet Nizamoglu; [2018]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Corneal perforations are medical emergencies in which the cornea is partially or completely ruptured, resulting in the loss of stability of the whole eye. Such situations can be caused by bacterial or fungal keratitis, autoimmune, or ocular-surface related disorders. Corneal perforations, if left untreated, can cause partial or total blindness.
