  1. 11. Come Fly with Me (Sustainably) : Pathways to Sustainable General Aviation and Private Pilot Training

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Miljövetenskap

    Author : Michael Stiebe; [2022]
    Keywords : General Aviation; Sustainable Aviation; Sustainable Development; Electric Aviation; Noise Pollution; Leaded Fuel; AVGAS 100LL; Tetraethyl Lead Phaseout; Pilot Training; Recreational Aviation; Switzerland;

    Abstract : Whereas commercial aviation is attempting to achieve the reduction of its substantial carbon footprint, general aviation’s (GA) climate change contribution is negligibly small, which is why the sector is facing other sustainability challenges mainly entailing the operation of dated technology and aircraft, increasing regulatory constraints, rising costs, noise emissions, and popular discontent, as well as remaining the last mobility sector in the world to still use leaded fuels. Throughout recent years, there have been remarkable sustainability trends in GA as well as heightened efforts to improve its emissions profile (noise, pollutants, CO2) and environmental reputation, for instance by the increased use of electric aircraft, especially for private pilot training. 2. 12. Development and Use of System Modeler 6DOF Flight Mechanics Model in Aircraft Conceptual Design

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Fluida och mekatroniska system

    Author : Niko Erä-Esko; [2022]
    Keywords : Aircraft Conceptual Design; Flight Mechanics; Modelling and Simulation;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a tool for conceptual design of a traditional configuration aircraft by using a parametric six degrees of freedom (6DOF) flight mechanics model implemented in the Modelica Language using Wolfram System Modeler. Being first only able to model and simulate the uncontrolled flight of an aircraft with fixed mass and centre of gravity (CG), and requiring detailed aerodynamic parameters as an input, the 6DOF model is improved by developing new features to reduce the number of required inputs while also increasing the data output of the simulations. 3. 13. Aviation’s future energy requirements

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Trafikflyghögskolan

    Author : Leonard Holmgren Holm; [2021]
    Keywords : Aviation fuels; Sustainable aviation fuels; Hydrogen power; Electric aircraft; Environmental impact; FLYL01; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Flygindustrin närmar sig ett vägval där sektorn kommer behöva bestämma sig för vilken typ av framtida energimöjligheter den ska använda sig av. En väg är att även fortsättningsvis använda sig konventionellt flygbränsle vilket med stor sannolikhet kommer leda till fortsatt ökande utsläpp globalt, och den andra vägen leder sektorn till hållbart flygbränsle, vätgasdrift och batteridrivna elektriska flygplan. 4. 14. The Emergence of the Dominant Design in Socio-Technical Transitions : A Case Study of Electric Aviation in Sweden

    University essay from KTH/Industriell ekonomi och organisation (Inst.)

    Author : Pavell Askari; Matthew Norström; [2021]
    Keywords : electric aviation; socio-technical transitions; socio-technical gates; multi-level perspective; dominant design theory; legitimacy; actor collaboration; window of opportunity; dominant category; elektriska flygplan; socio-tekniska övergångar; socio-tekniska portar; multi-level perspective; dominant design-teori; legitimitet; kommunikation mellan aktörer; window of opportunity; dominant kategori;

    Abstract : There is currently an ongoing transition into more sustainable aviation. One of the sustainable alternatives to the conventional fossil-fueled aircraft is electric aviation. The research aim of the study could be divided into two parts. The first part was to identify the barriers to the development of electric aviation in Sweden. READ MORE

  5. 15. Operating Cost Analysis of Electric Aircraft on Regional Routes

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Kommunikations- och transportsystem; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Author : Kawthar Shahwan; [2021]
    Keywords : Electric aircraft; cost comparison; cost analysis; operating cost; sustainable air transport; regional routes.;

    Abstract : The future of electric aircraft is closing in, with several companies racing to develop the first electric aircraft for commercial use. Researchers believe that electric aircraft have many benefits compared to conventional aircraft: the decrease of emissions, cheaper costs in the chain of development from manufacturing to ticket prices and a decrease in both fuel costs and overall operating costs.
