  1. 11. Changes in Surface Mass Balance on the Devon Ice Cap in the Canadian Arctic

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Linnéa Midefelt; [2016]
    Keywords : Surface mass balance; Devon Ice Cap; Canadian Arctic; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Climate change is an ongoing process that contributes to changes in the climate on a global scale down to a local scale. The Arctic sea ice and the glaciers have continued to decrease at the same time as the rate of sea level rise has increased. READ MORE

  2. 12. The 200-year history of nss-SO42- concentration in snow and ice from Lomonosovfonna, Svalbard

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Maria Schoeps; Josefin Andersson; [2015]
    Keywords : Sulfate; nss-SO42-; ice-cores; glaciochemistry; Lomonosovfonna; Sulfat; nss-SO42-; isborrkärnor; iskemi; Lomonosovfonna;

    Abstract : Environmental scientists use ice-core records to reconstruct past atmospheric conditions. Anthropogenic and natural sources of emissions can be traced when analyzing ions in the ice, which is included in the science of glaciochemistry. Sulfate is an excellent ion to use in these studies since it is traceable to these emissions. READ MORE

  3. 13. Possible Impact from Alaskan Forest Fires on Glaciers of St. Elias Mountains, Yukon Canada

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Cham Hoang; Moa Stangefelt; [2015]
    Keywords : Alaska; St Elias mountains; forest fires; Black Carbon; albedo; HYSPLIT;

    Abstract : How great potential effect does the Black carbon emitted from the boreal forest fire region of Alaska have on the retreating glaciers of the St. Elias Mountains? In this study climate and forest fire history data of Alaska was run in the HYSPLIT wind trajectory model to generate trajectories originated from large occurring fires in Alaska from 2005 to 2014. 4. 14. Geochemical and palaeomagnetic characteristics of a Swedish Holocene sediment sequence from Lake Storsjön, Jämtland

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Joakim Robygd; [2015]
    Keywords : Jämtland; geochemistry; palaeomagnetism; PSV; sedimentation rate; Holocene development; geochronology; climate change; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : As a part of a French-Swedish collaboration project to reconstruct middle to northern European climate variations during the Holocene, a sediment sequence from Lake Storsjön, Jämtland was retrieved and analysed for geochemical and palaeomagnetic properties. The subsampled sequence, composed of one freeze core and three Niederreiter piston cores, revealed information of both climatic, environmental and anthropogenic changes over the past 10,800 years. 5. 15. Ascertaining the lithological boundaries of the Yoldia Sea of the Baltic Sea : a geochemical approach

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Sophie Reiche; [2014]
    Keywords : Baltic Sea; Yoldia Sea; lithological descriptions; X-ray fluorescence; biogenic silica; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : When analyzing sedimentary sequences, results which are based solely on macroscopic observations, can lead to misleading and incomplete conclusions. Therefore these observations need to be complemented by analyses on a microscopic or atomic scale, such as through biological, chemical or physical methods. READ MORE
