  1. 21. A Greenland ice core perspective on the dating of the Late Bronze Age Santorini eruption

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Elin Löfroth; [2010]
    Keywords : Santorini; 10Be; 14C; NGRIP; kolcykelmodellering; carbon cycle modeling; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Santorini eruption is one of the greatest in historic time and an important time marker in the regional archaeology. It has been dated to 1627-1600 BC (2σ error) using radiocarbon dating (Friedrich et al. 2006) and to 1642±5 BC by identifying a volcanic fallout layer in the Greenland ice cores (Vinther et al. 2006). 2. 22. Klimat i miljökonsekvensbeskrivningar : hantering av klimatförändringar och extrema väderhändelser i MKB

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Urban and Rural Development

    Author : Hanna Wahlström Novakovic'; [2008]
    Keywords : klimatförändringar; miljökonsekvensbeskrivningar; MKB; klimat;

    Abstract : There has always been global warming on earth and it is because of it that the earth is inhabitable. Without global warming the temperature on earth would be around -18 ° C instead of today's + 15 ° C. Global warming is generated by greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane which trap long wave radiation in the earth's atmosphere. READ MORE

  3. 23. Stratigraphic studies of the Taniente Palet bog at the north-western corner of Isla de los Estados Tierra del Fuego, South America

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Anna-Kari Trondman; [2007]
    Keywords : Holocene; South America; Tierra del Fuego; peat; paleoclimate; holocen; Sydamerika; torv; paleoklimat; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Fourteen somewhat overlapping 1-m cores, forming a total sequence of about 10.90 metres, were retrieved from Taniente Palet bog on Isla de los Estados, Argentina. The cores were described and correlated both visually and by measuring magnetic susceptibility and loss on ignition. Twelve samples were also taken for radiocarbon dating. READ MORE

  4. 24. A study of early Holocene climate changes in Småland, Sweden, with focus on the '8.2 kyr event'

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Hans Wennerberg; [2005]
    Keywords : geomorphology; physical geography; pollenanalys; mineralmagnetism; kolhalt; holocena klimatförändringar; pedology; cartography; climatology; naturgeografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; 8.2 kyr event; Sweden; mineral magnetism; carbon content; pollen analysis; Sverige; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Three sediment cores, each 1.5 meters in length, obtained from Lake Byestadsjön in the province of Småland, southern Sweden were studied with high resolution mineral magnetic measurements, carbon content, pollen analysis and XRF analysis. READ MORE

  5. 25. Magnetic grain-size analyses of Holocene sediments in the North Atlantic and Norwegian Sea : palaeoceanographic applications

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Torbjörn Wall; [2004]
    Keywords : magnetic grain-size; magnetic hysteresis loops; Reykjanes Ridge; Vøring plateau; North Atlantic; Norwegian Sea; deep ocean currents; Holocene; magnetisk kornstorlek; magnetiska hysteresis-lopar; Reykjanesryggen; Vøringplatån; Nordatlanten; Norska havet; djuphavsströmmar; Holocen; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : High-resolution magnetic hysteresis measurements were carried out on three sediment cores, one from the North Atlantic and two from the Norwegian Sea. These measurements can be used to reconstruct changes in magnetic grain-size. Physical grain-size has been interpreted as a proxy for bottom current intensity (McCave et al. READ MORE
