  1. 1. Developments Towards High-Resolution Muonic Atom X-ray Spectroscopy of Low-Z Elements : For precision measurements of absolute nuclear charge radii

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Benjamin Verbeek; [2023]
    Keywords : muon physics; subatomic physics; charge radius; nucleus; lithium; silicon drift detector; microcalorimeter;

    Abstract : This Master's thesis investigates a method to measure atomic nuclei with record precision using muonic atom X-ray spectroscopy. In particular, 6Li is measured experimentally. The method used is independent from the previous most precise measurement of the 6Li nuclear charge radius which uses electron scattering. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rejection of the Photon Induced Background in LDMX at 8 GeV

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Erik Wallin; [2022]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) is a proposed fixed target experiment at SLAC's LCLS-II electron beamline that will attempt direct production of sub-GeV dark matter, measurable through a missing momentum and missing energy signature. An initial run of LDMX is planned at 4 GeV beam energy, for which a study on LDMX's capabilities to separate dark matter production events from the standard model background was previously performed. 3. 3. Low-dimensional Magnetism in Novel 2D Honeycomb Materials

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Sebastian Johnsen; [2021]
    Keywords : Applied physics; Materials physics; Quantum materials; Magnetism; Muons; Neutrons; Tillämpad fysik; Materialfysik; Kvantmaterial; Magnetism; Myoner; Neutroner;

    Abstract : A Kitaev quantum spin liquid is a phase of matter predicted to host excitations that can be used to preform fault-tolerant quantum computation. Though the theoretical prediction of such a state is on firm footing, its realisation in real materials has proven to be elusive. READ MORE

  4. 4. Energy reconstruction with artificial neural networks on LDMX simulations

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Daniel Magdalinski; [2020]
    Keywords : Dark matter; LDMX; electromagnetic calorimeter; neural networks; convolutional neural networks; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : It is clear from evidence such as rotational curves and cosmic microwave background measurements that dark matter exists. The light dark matter experiment (LDMX) will search for dark matter in the sub-GeV range. It will do this using missing-momentum measurements of electrons interacting with a Tungsten target. 5. 5. The two-Higgs-doublet modelas an explanation for the muon (g−2) discrepancy

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Zenny Wettersten; [2020]
    Keywords : Beyond Standard Model; BSM; CP violation; Higgs Physics; two Higgs doublet model; 2hdm; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The general Z2-violating two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) is analysed as an explanation for the discrepancy between Standard Model predictions and experimental measurements of the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment ∆aµ, with the condition that it does not provide an electron electric dipole moment |eEDM| larger than experimental bounds. Several point studies of individual 2HDM parameter space points are made to show large-scale cancellation among Barr-Zee 2-loop contributions to |eEDM| at large Yukawa lepton sector magnitudes, as well as an approximately linear growth of total aµ contribution when those magnitudes are rescaled by a common factor, reaching the same order as ∆aµ.
