  1. 11. The Higgs Width in Higgs production in association with a W+ boson

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Wijeratne Mohandiramge Umashi Navisha Fernando; [2023]
    Keywords : Higgs boson; Higgs width; off-shell; on-shell; narrow-width approximation; MadGraph5_MC@NLO; W boson; supersymmetry; dark matter; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The width of the Higgs boson is a quantity that cannot be measured directly from the on-shell Higgs peak; it would have to be measured indirectly. In 2013, Caola and Melnikov developed a method to determine the Higgs width by using off-shell and on-shell cross-sections and applying the narrow-width approximation. READ MORE

  2. 12. Expansions of neutrino oscillation and decay probabilities in matter

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Jesper Grönroos; [2023]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; Particle physics; Neutrino physics; Neutrino oscillations; Series expansions; Physics beyond the Standard Model; Teoretisk fysik; Partikelfysik; Neutrinofysik; Neutrinooscillationer; Serieutvecklingar; Fysik bortom Standardmodellen;

    Abstract : We consider a simple model for invisible neutrino decay as a sub-leading effect in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework, and use the Cayley–Hamilton formalism to obtain a full set of neutrino oscillation probabilities in matter. These are given as analytical series expansions in the small parameters α ∼ O(λ^2) and s_13 ∼ O(λ), where λ ≡ 0. READ MORE

  3. 13. Studying Elliptic Flow in High Centrality Pb-Pb Collisions using Proton Collision Background Fitting

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Philip Fredholm; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this report, the elliptic flow in high centrality Pb-Pb collisions is calculated using two particle correlations $v_2\{2\}$ but without any imposed separation in η with data taken from the ALICE experiment at CERN in 2015. Instead, measurements of the same correlations in proton-proton collisions is used as a background to account for non-flow effects and data is correlated between the time projection chamber and the forward multiplicity detectors in order to avoid intra-jet correlations. 4. 14. MadGraph Implementations of the Chirality-Flow Formalism for QED

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Emil Boman; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The chirality-flow formalism has been proven to simplify the calculation of helicity amplitudes, both analytically and in a first numerical implementation developed as an extension of MadGraph5_aMC@NLO. Expanding on this work, two new implementations have been developed. READ MORE

  5. 15. Non-Diffractive Nuclear Excitations In Angantyr

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Carl Rosenkvist; [2023]
    Keywords : Heavy-ion; non-diffractive; nuclear excitation; secondary interactions; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : To better understand collectivity in high energy physics, the heavy-ion collision model Angantyr was developed to be included in the event generator Pythia. In this model, proton-proton collision phenomenology is extrapolated to heavy-ion collisions without assuming a thermal plasma for particle production. READ MORE
