  1. 6. Rock cavern as thermal energy storage

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Energivetenskap

    Author : Simon Berglund; [2020]
    Keywords : Rock cavern; Waste heat; District heating; Intermittent operation; Sustainability; Heat storage; Carbon dioxide reduction; Bergrum; Spillvärme; Fjärrvärme; Intermittent drift; Hållbarhet; Värmelagring; Koldioxid reducering;

    Abstract : In the fall of 2019, a comprehensive idea study was conducted on heat storage in two rock caverns located at Näsudden in Skelleftehamn and was part of the project course "Energiteknik, huvudkurs" at Luleå University of Technology. This idea study investigated the conditions of using waste heat from Boliden AB:s copper smeltery (Rönnskär) and storing this waste heat in two rock caverns and use them as seasonal thermal storage tanks, with the purpose of using the heat in the nearby district heating network, thus replacing some of the oil burned at Rönnskär. 2. 7. Modeling of waste heat recovery system and outdoor swimming pool : Waste heat from hotel kitchen recovered by heat exchanger transferred to pool

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för tillämpad fysik och elektronik

    Author : Linn Olanders; [2020]
    Keywords : Heat exchanger; heat recovery; waste heat; pool; swimming pool; comsol; modeling; commercial kitchen; kitchen;

    Abstract : This project was performed to evaluate if waste heat from hotel kitchens is enough to heat outdoor swimming pools in southern Europe or if it can be used as a compliment to another heat source. Another aim was to analyze the simulations and calculations of the pools and the heat recovery system. READ MORE

  3. 8. Modeling, Simulation and Correlation of Drag losses in a Power Transfer Unit of an All- Wheel Drive System

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Balaji Srinivasan Venkatesan; [2020]
    Keywords : 1-D simulation; System simulation; ROMAX Energy; LMS AMESim; Power loss; Hypoid gear; Power Transfer Unit; Efficiency and Drag Loss Tests; 1-D simulering; systemsimulering; ROMAX Energy; LMS AMESim; effektförlust; hypoidväxel; kraftöverföringsenhet; effektivitet och dragförlusttester;

    Abstract : A Power Transfer Unit (PTU) of an All-Wheel Drive System is a hypoid gear transmission unit that distributes the power from the vehicle transmission to all wheels of the vehicle. This thesis aims at increasing the fidelity of the analytical power loss calculation methods through test data correlation and develop a 1D simulation model that can be used to evaluate the drag losses in the PTU at early design stages. 4. 9. Microwave Heat Treatment of Black Liquor for the Degradation of Hemicellulose

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)

    Author : Maja Rydgård; [2020]
    Keywords : lignin; biofuel; black liquor; heat treatment; microwave heating; chemical engineering; kemiteknik; Technology and Engineering; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The largest use of fossil petroleum is the production of fuels. Hence, finding sustainable alter-natives is an important step to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. One such alternative is to produce fuel from biomass, such as waste products from agriculture and the forest indus-try. READ MORE

  5. 10. Conceptual design and development of thermal management system for hybrid electric aircraft engine. : A study to develop a physical model and investigate the use of Mobil Jet Oil II as coolant for aircraft electrical propulsion under different scenarios and time horizons.

    University essay from Mälardalens högskola/Framtidens energi

    Author : Yash Khanna; [2019]
    Keywords : Hybrid electric aircraft system; Thermal management system; micro channel; Dynamic modelling; Mobil Jet Oil II;

    Abstract : The ever-increasing levels of greenhouse gas emissions has led to the scientific community starting to explore the viability of electrical aircraft system, with the most prominent research and product development for hybrid electric system, which forms the transition phase from combustion to fully electric aircrafts. The primary objective of this thesis is to find solutions towards thermal management of the electrical components of a hybrid electric aircraft propulsion system, which generate a significant amount of heat while operating at heavy load conditions required to propel an aircraft.
