  1. 1. An Empirical Survey of Bandits in an Industrial Recommender System Setting

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för data- och informationsteknik

    Author : Tobias Schwarz; Johan Brandby; [2023-09-21]
    Keywords : computer science; industrial application; machine learning; reinforcement learning; multi-armed bandits; MAB; contextual multi-armed bandits; survey; batch learning;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the effects of incorporating unstructured data—images in the wild—in contextual multi-armed bandits are investigated, when used within a recommender system setting, which focuses on picture-based content suggestion. The idea is to employ image features, extracted by a pre-trained convolutional neural network, and study the resulting bandit behaviors when including respective excluding this information in the typical context creation, which normally relies on structured data sources—such as metadata. 2. 2. Fog detection using an artificial neural network

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Quanwei Li; Tiancheng Ma; [2023]
    Keywords : Machine Learning; Deep Learning; Image Analysis; Computer Vision; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : This project studies a method of image-based fog detection directly from a camera without using the transmissometer. Fog can be detected using transmissometers which could be a very costly approach. This thesis presents an image-based approach for fog detection using Artificial Neural networks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Active Learning for Solving Expensive Optimization Problems

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för informationsteknologi

    Author : Siwei Fu; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Many practical engineering and computer science problems can be translated into a global otimization problem where the task is to find the best (optimal) vector 𝒙𝒙∗ that gives the smallest possible function value 𝑓𝑓 = 𝑓𝑓(𝒙𝒙∗) for some function 𝑓𝑓() of interest. Often the function 𝑓𝑓() is expensive in the sense that it cannot be easily evaluated computationally or experimentally in terms of time and/or resources required. READ MORE

  4. 4. Convolutions on graphs for learning vehicle crash behaviour

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för data- och informationsteknik

    Author : Daniel Adin; [2021-11-09]
    Keywords : Computer; science; computer science; engineering; graph; convolutions; inite element method; project; thesis;

    Abstract : Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have shown successful results in the recent years, especially within the area of image analysis. The idea of learning to predict the result of a crash simulation using machine learning rose from the analogy between images and Finite Element models (FE-models) used in crash simulations. 5. 5. Simulating Human Movement Patterns in an Area : A Part of the Crowdmapper Project

    University essay from Jönköping University/Tekniska Högskolan

    Author : Rasmus Svanberg; Hampus Svensson; [2021]
    Keywords : Final Thesis Work; Human Simulation; Unity; Game Engine; Crowdmapper; Pandemic; Social Distancing; Computer Science; C-Sharp; C#;

    Abstract : In 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic struck the world, creating a need for social distancing to stop the spreading of the virus. This report will discuss and cover how a simulation was implemented in the game engine Unity that simulates human movement-patterns, which in turn will help with spreading people out in public areas.
