  1. 11. Study of tip clearance flows

    University essay from KTH/Flygdynamik

    Author : Camille Fournis; [2018]
    Keywords : turbomachine; compressor; tip leakage flow; vortex; turbomaskin; kompressor; gapflöde; virvel;

    Abstract : The tip leakage vortex is responsible for the generation of stagnation pressure losses inside the compressor along with the outbreak of rotating stall and surge. The current paper analytically proved that a part of the losses is proportional to the vortex circulation squared. READ MORE

  2. 12. Aerodynamics of Sailing Yachts : Force, Pressure and sail shape measurements as bridge between experiments and numerical simulations

    University essay from KTH/Marina system

    Author : Francesco Giacobone; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The present work reports the first systematic results obtained in wind tunnel and at full scale with theexperimental apparatus developed within the joint project among Politecnico di Milano, North Sails andCSEM. The steady state upwind aerodynamics of sailing yachts are investigated through the contemporarymeasurement of global forces, distributed pressures and sail flying shapes, and with numerical simulationsbased on Potential Theory and Navier-Stokes equations. 3. 13. An Experimental Study of the High-Lift System and Wing-Body Junction Wake Flow Interference of the NASA Common Research Model

    University essay from KTH/Optimeringslära och systemteori

    Author : Desirée Brundin; [2017]
    Keywords : Common research model; wind tunnel experiments; subsonic flow; wing-body junction; commercial aircraft; Cobra Probe measurements; high-lift control systems; flow interference; drag estimate.;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the turbulent flow in the wake of the wing-body junction of the NASA Common Research Model to further reveal its complex vortical structure and to contribute to the reference database used for Computational Fluid Dynamics validation activities. Compressible flows near two wall-boundary layers occurs not only at the wing-body junction but at every control surface of an airplane, therefore increased knowledge about this complex flow structure could potentially improve the estimates of drag performance and control surface efficiency, primarily for minimizing the environmental impact of commercial flight. 4. 14. Identification and modelling of noise sources on a realisticnose landing gear using phased array methods applied tocomputational data

    University essay from KTH/MWL Marcus Wallenberg Laboratoriet

    Author : Hamza Bouchouireb; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Due to the recent development of quieter turbofan engines, airframe noise has started to emerge asthe most important noise source. This is particularly true during the approach/landing phase, whenthe engines are operated at low-thrust levels. READ MORE

  5. 15. Experimental validation of CFD model predicting wind effects on inclined-roof mounted photovoltaic modules

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Mohammed Gofran Chowdhury; [2016]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : I detta arbete, utvecklades flera CFD modeller för att identifiera och karakterisera el produktion från solceller med hänsyn till instrålning nivån och yttemperaturen. De genoförda experimentella arbete tyder på att när PV-modulen utsätts för väder och vind sker signifikanta förändringar av temperaturen på modulens yta. READ MORE
