Childfree People’s Experiences of Menstrual Health in Healthcare

University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvetenskaper

Abstract: This master's thesis investigates childfree people's experiences of menstrual health in Swedish healthcare. My research questions are 1). How do childfree patients experience their visits regarding menstrual health at healthcare clinics? 2). How does pronatalism affect the received healthcare for those patients? I have gathered data with an anonymous survey and also conducted two interviews. Queer theory and antinatalism are the theories used to analyse the material. With a feminist perspective during the writing and analysing process, I criticize norms that affect pronatalism. Those norms influence how childfree people are treated and reflect the lack of current medical treatment for them. My collected data shows that participants must be taken seriously in their childfree lifestyle. I have worked with a thematic method during the research project. Quotes and narratives have been chosen by general experiences and experiences that were different.
