  1. 1. Method Development & Analysis of Seals using FEM

    University essay from KTH/Maskinkonstruktion

    Author : Lovisa Svanborg Östlin; [2023]
    Keywords : FEM; guidelines; hyperelastic materials; hyperelastic material models; method development; seals; FEM; riktlinjer; hyperelastiska material; hyperelastiska materialmodeller; metodutveckling; tätningar;

    Abstract : Hyperelasticity is a significant property of rubber, taken advantage of in engineering applications. A common application is the use of seals to prevent fluid transfer (liquid or gas) between solid regions. Volvo CE is often depending on external supplier when developing seals. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimizing within the Supply Chain: A Mathematical Model for Inventory Optimization with respect to Demand Planning

    University essay from KTH/Matematisk statistik

    Author : William Bork; Martynas Giedraitis; [2023]
    Keywords : Inventory model; ”Fast Moving Consumer Goods-company” FMCG-company ; Reorder point; Order quantity; ”Software as a Service-Company”; EOQ-model; R; Q -model; Forecast; Holt-Winters model; Inventory model; ”Fast Moving Consumer Goods-company” FMCG-company ; Reorder point; Order quantity; ”Software as a Service-Company”; EOQ-model; R; Q -model; Forecast; Holt-Winters model;

    Abstract : This thesis examines how to design a mathematical inventory model for a ”Fast Moving Consumer Goods”-company (FMCG-company), which determines the optimal reorder point and order quantity such that the average inventory cost is minimized. The thesis was made in collaboration with a ”Software as a Service”- company which provided the data containing information about the products and inventory management of one of their customers, a FMCG-company. 3. 3. Impact of Residual Stress on the Warm Pre-Stressing Effect

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Emil Danielsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Warm Pre-Stressing effect; Residual stress; Cleavage fracture; Ferritic Steel; Fracture mechanics; Varm förspänning; Restspänningar; Klyvbrott; Brottmekanik; Ferritiskt stål;

    Abstract : Irradiation of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) causes a shift of the ductile to brittle transition region towards higher temperature regions. In the event of a pressurized thermal shock (PTS), where the temperature drops drastically, the ductile to brittle transition region might be entered for irradiated ferritic steel. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biopolymers processed and used as enzyme carriers

    University essay from KTH/Fiber- och polymerteknologi

    Author : Dániel Mészáros; [2023]
    Keywords : Biobased materials; plasticized sodium alginate; water stability; extraction kinetics; enzyme carrier; Biobaserade material; Mjukgjort natriumalginat; Vattenstabilitet; extraktionskinetik; Enzymbärare;

    Abstract : Syftet med detta masterprojekt var att undersöka möjligheten att använda biobaserat, mjukgjort natriumalginat (NaAlg) som enzymbärare. Alginaterna görs traditionellt bearbetbara genom att tillsätta olika mjukgörare, såsom polyoler (glycerol, sorbitol, etc.), i detta arbete användes glycerol. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigation of coarse-grid CFD approach for nuclear engineering application

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Michela Casarella; [2023]
    Keywords : Thermal-hydraulics; Nuclear reactor; CFD; Sub-channel; Coarse-grid; Turbulence; Pressure drop; Termisk-hydraulik; kärnreaktor; CFD; underkanal; grovkornigt nät; turbulens; tryckfall;

    Abstract : In this thesis, an innovative coarse grid CFD approach is developed that aims toexploit the capabilities of sub-channel codes and CFD methods while overcoming theirlimitations. In the approach, a very coarse mesh is implemented in the CFD softwareOpenFOAM and a new wall treatment, based on the traditional concept of the wallfunction, is applied to the wall boundary conditions of the domain to take into accountthe low resolution of the grid which does not allow to effectively capture the effect of thesolid walls on the thermo-hydraulics of the flow.
