  1. 1. Predictive Study of Flame status inside a combustor of a gas turbine using binary classification

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för datavetenskap

    Author : Sreenand Sasikumar; [2022]
    Keywords : Binary Classification; Random Forest; SVM; XGBoost; Logistic Regression; Extra-trees; GasTurbine; Flame Detection;

    Abstract : Quick and accurate detection of flame inside a gas turbine is very crucial to mitigaterisks in power generation. Failure of flame detection increases downtime and maintenancecosts and on rare occasions it may cause explosions due to buildup of incombustible fuel inside the combustion chamber. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Arvid Lindmark; [2022]
    Keywords : Beer; Hops; Thiols; 3MHA; 4MMP; Food Technology; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Abstract : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 3. 3. Detection of nitrous oxide through IR-DFWM in gas flows with future application in ammonia flames

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Martin Passad; [2021]
    Keywords : Physics; Optics; Lasers; Environment; Hydrogen; Hydrogen Energy; Ammonia Energy; DFWM; Ammonia; Nitrous Oxide; Ammonia Flame; Ammonia Combustion; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis report on an investigation into the applicability of mid-infrared degenerate four-wave mixing (IR-DWFM) as a method to detect N\(_2\)O in ammonia flames. DFWM has previously been used for concentration measurements on other molecules, but has never, to the author's knowledge, been applied to measure N\(_2\)O in ammonia flames before. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of a GC Method for the Quantification of Short Chain Carboxylic Acids in Aqueous Solution

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Anton Åkervall; [2020]
    Keywords : DAI-GC-FID; Direct Aqueous Injection; Gas Chromatography; Flame Ionization Detector; SCFA; Short Chain Fatty Acids; Formic Acid; Acetic Acid; Lactic Acid; EGR; Exhaust Gas Recirculation; CAC; Charged Air Cooler; FFD; Fractional Factorial Design;

    Abstract : Petroleum powered vehicles emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) through combustion that contributes to the pollution of the environment. A technique in the 1970s was developed to decrease these emissions, especially for nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphuric oxides (SOx) which is called exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). READ MORE

  5. 5. Near-infrared optical frequency comb Vernier spectroscopy in air and in a flame

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Maryam Fakhri; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A Vernier spectrometer is built with a near-infrared mode-locked Er:doped fiber laser, a Fabry-Perot cavity with finesse of 1000, a diffraction grating and a photo detector. The optical cavity provides high sensitivity in absorption detection by enhancing the interaction length of the light with molecular species contained in the cavity. READ MORE
