  1. 21. Humidity’s effect on strength and stiffness of containerboard materials : A study in how the relative humidity in the ambient air affects the tensile and compression properties in linerboard and fluting mediums

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för ingenjörs- och kemivetenskaper

    Author : Frida Strömberg; [2016]
    Keywords : Compression strength; compression stiffness; tensile stiffness; tensile strength; relative humidity; SCT; containerboard; liner; fluting;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the difference between containerboard materials strength and stiffness properties in tension and compression, how the mechanisms behind compressive and tensile properties are affected by the relative humidity of the ambient air and how the relative humidity affects the compressive response of the fibre network. These properties are used to predict the lifetime performance of corrugated boxes and to prevent early collapses of the boxes and thereby waste or harm of the transported goods inside. READ MORE

  2. 22. Fractionation of textile fibres from denim jeans

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemivetenskap (CHE)

    Author : Gustaf Chroona; [2016]
    Keywords : Fractionation; Separation; Textile fibres; Jeans; Regenerated cellulose fibres; Fraktionering; Separation; Textilfibrer; Jeans; Regenererade cellulosafibrer;

    Abstract : The structure and composition of denim jeans is complex. In addition to cotton, which is the dominating type of textile fibre, there may be up to about 20 % synthetic fibres. The synthetic fibres are found in the sewing thread and in the elastic yarns that are used to make stretch denim jeans. READ MORE

  3. 23. Designing an Experiment to Investigate Slow Light Effects in Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Karolina Dorozynska; [2015]
    Keywords : Slow light; Whispering Gallery Mode Resonator; WGMR; Atomic physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Slow light and Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators are two interesting and useful fields with applications in optical sensing and laser stabilisation among others. Slow light can lead to long interaction times which are useful in light-matter interactions such as sensitive non-linear optics. READ MORE

  4. 24. Submarine slope instability as a cause of contaminated sediment dispersal in Ångermanälven, Sweden

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Hannes Berg Wiklund; [2015]
    Keywords : Submarine landslides; contaminated sediments; weak layers; Ångermanälven; Undervattenskred; förorenade sediment; svaga lager; Ångermanälven;

    Abstract : This study aims at providing results for the analysis of the stratigraphy underlying contaminated sediments in Ångermanälven. The contaminated sediments, containing heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants, are derived from wastewater discharged into Ångermanälven from nearby paper and pulp industries. READ MORE

  5. 25. Fabrication of a light-weight SOFC using ceramic fibre paper as substrate

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Philip Löfkvist; [2015]
    Keywords : inorganic chemistry; solid oxide fuel cell; unmanned aerial vehicle; high temperature heat treatment; yttria stabilized zirconia; ceramic fibre paper; catator; nickel oxide; impregnation; paste manufacturing; ultra-sonication; ball-milling; optical microscopy; materials chemistry; scanning electron microscopy; materialkemi; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A novel method for the fabrication of a light-weight solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) has been evaluated at Catator. This was conducted in order to lower the weight and thus cost of an unmanned aerial vehicle. The main aim for this thesis was to achieve a thin, dense and crack-free electrolyte using a ceramic fibre paper as substrate. READ MORE
