  1. 36. Change of heating fuel consumption patterns produced by the economic crisis in Greece

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Panagiotis Patrinos; [2021]
    Keywords : geography; GIS; atmospheric pollution; Greece; household heating systems; heating fuel; economic Crisis; air Quality; satellite data; virtual stations; regression analysis; air pollutants mapping; anthropogenic factors; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The economic crisis in Greece resulted in a change in residential heating fuels utilized, which in turn resulted in a change of air quality over Greater Athens Area. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of economic crisis in air quality over Attica by examining the change in air pollutants’ concentrations before, during, and after the onset of the economic crisis in Greece and to associate this change with the change in fuels used for residential heating. 2. 37. Expressing ecosystem model output and Swedish forestry goals with composite indictors

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Nicolas Tarasewicz; [2021]
    Keywords : Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; forest management; multifunctionality; LPJ-GUESS; ecosystem services; composite indicator; climate change; biodiversity; SDGs; Sweden; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Forest ecosystems provide a wide range of services necessary for maintaining environmental health and human well-being. Ecosystem models help inform how various management strategies respond in different regions to changing climate conditions. READ MORE

  3. 38. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Nora Kainz; [2021]
    Keywords : physical geography; ecosystem analysis; permafrost degradation; DOC; DOC concentration; stable isotope carbon signature; DOC quality; DOC degradation; Atmospheric Sciences and Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018. 5. 40. Legacy effects of spring temperature anomalies on seasonal productivities in northern ecosystems

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Hanna Marsh; [2021]
    Keywords : Physical geography; Ecosystem analysis; Northern ecosystems; Legacy effects; Climate Change; Gross Primary Production; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Legacy effects of spring temperature anomalies on seasonal productivities in northern ecosystems Direct and lagged effects from spring temperature anomalies for the time-period 2001-2018 have been investigated for northern ecosystems (> 30°N). Three different data sets of Gross Primary Production (GPP) estimates (GOSIF, NIRvGPP and FLUX GPP) have been used in tandem with concurrent climate data to find significant correlations between spring growth and temperature anomalies and subsequent growing seasons.
