6. Student Intuitions in Statistical Mechanics
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Fysikundervisningens didaktikAbstract : This exploratory case study aimed to investigate patterns in student reasoning in statistical mechanics, in order to identify difficulties and develop ideas for future research. Upper-division undergraduate students, taking a course in statistical mechanics, were interviewed in groups. READ MORE

7. Development and Use of System Modeler 6DOF Flight Mechanics Model in Aircraft Conceptual Design
University essay from Linköpings universitet/Fluida och mekatroniska systemAbstract : This thesis presents a tool for conceptual design of a traditional configuration aircraft by using a parametric six degrees of freedom (6DOF) flight mechanics model implemented in the Modelica Language using Wolfram System Modeler. Being first only able to model and simulate the uncontrolled flight of an aircraft with fixed mass and centre of gravity (CG), and requiring detailed aerodynamic parameters as an input, the 6DOF model is improved by developing new features to reduce the number of required inputs while also increasing the data output of the simulations. 8. Squaring VEGAS -- Multidimensional Integration Using 2D Correlations
University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisationAbstract : Multidimensional integrals are used in many areas of physics; electrodynamics, quantum mechanics and statistical physics, to name a few. Many integrals can not be solved analytically, but can instead be approximated numerically. VEGAS is a Monte Carlo integration algorithm, which specializes it in approximating multidimensional integrals. READ MORE

9. Classification of Flying Qualities with Machine Learning Methods
University essay from KTH/FlygdynamikAbstract : The primary objective of this thesis is to evaluate the prospect of machine learning methods being used to classify flying qualities based on simulator data (with the focus being on pitch maneuvers). If critical flying qualities could be identified earlier in the verification process, they can be further invested in and focused on with less cost for design changes of the flight control system. 10. Influence of different colormaps on the perceptual interpretation of numerical values produced by a self-organizing feature map
University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)Abstract : To visualize important information and generating a well suited colormap to represent the features of interest in a dataset is complicated. Some colormaps provide with less accurate insights of the data. Meanwhile other colormaps can provide effectively a stronger understanding and identifcation of features in the data. READ MORE
