  1. 1. Computational Fluid Dynamics and Modeling of a Free Surface Flow

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Mathieu Marmier; [2023]
    Keywords : CFD; Free Surface Flow; VOF; STAR-CCM ; Multiphase Simulation; Nuclear Engineering; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : This project deals with the CFD modelling of a free surface flow. The aim is to develop and validate a fast and accurate numerical model for stratified two-phase flows. Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model is employed. The purpose is to use the developed numerical model for the design of an element within a compact nuclear reactor. READ MORE

  2. 2. Simulation of Combustion in a Hybrid Rocket Engine

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Oscar Andersson; [2023]
    Keywords : Thesis; Hybrid Rocket Engine; CFD; computational fluid dynamics; combustion;

    Abstract : A numerical investigation on the combustion mechanics of a hybrid rocket engine is performed through unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes simulation. The hybrid rocket engine model is based on an experimental laboratory scale engine design operating on GOX and HDPE as a propellant. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Analysis of Spray Deflector Designs

    University essay from KTH/Lättkonstruktioner, marina system, flyg- och rymdteknik, rörelsemekanik

    Author : Osman Gyokhan Ali; [2023]
    Keywords : Planing Hulls; Spray Deflector; Hull Modification; Computational fluid dynamics CFD ; resistance; trim angle; heave; CD-adapco Star CCM ; Numerical Ventilation; Phase Replacement; Modified HRIC Scheme; Volume Fraction Source Term; Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes RANS ; Volume of Fluid VOF ; SST K-Omega Turbulence Modelling; Höghastighetshantverk; modelldesign; spraydeflektor;

    Abstract : Planing hull is a common hull design concept which decreases the resistance while speed is increasing for a specific speed range. It is also suitable for hull modifications to achieve higher efficiency. Spray deflector is a promising hull modification which offers extra resistance decreasing and less vertical acceleration for planing hulls. READ MORE

  4. 4. CFD Simulations of Unsteady LHA Ship Airwake in OpenFOAM

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Matus Cvengros; [2018]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Extensive research in the past two decades has shown that flow around the sharp edges of bluff bodies, such as the superstructure of a ship, can cause large scale shear-layer separations with increased turbulence, generating a highly unsteady flow in the airwake region. Such separations affect the control margins and handling loading of a rotorcraft, mainly if operating from the vicinity of a flight deck, and therefore negatively influence the rotorcraft operating limits, which is one of the main reasons for the study of ship airwakes. 5. 5. ON SIMULATING COMPRESSIBLE FLOWS WITH A DENSITY BASED SOLVER

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Sathyanarayanan Chandramouli; [2016]
    Keywords : Coupled density based solver; High Pressure Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane;

    Abstract : A coupled density based solver in the framework of foam-extend is used to perform simulations of transonic flows. The solver is based on an explicit and time-accurate algorithm and is coupled to a compressible Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) and a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) module. READ MORE
