  1. 6. Error propagation in nuclear models

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Artis Mucenieks; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this thesis we perform error analysis of a nuclear model based on density-functional theory developed in Lund. The Lund model allows us to perform calculations of nuclear spectra more efficiently by constructing a simple effective Hamiltonian reproducing the quadrupole deformation and pairing interaction strength parameters of a spherical Hartree-Fock reference functional. 2. 7. Estimating stellar limb darkening using exoplanet transits

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Sora Ishida; [2023]
    Keywords : Limb-darkening; CHEOPS; Transit; Exoplanet; PYCHEOPS; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The brightness of the stars is not uniform over the surface as it varies depending on the wavelength and the atmosphere that the light propagates. Limb darkening is an optical effect caused by a decrease in brightness of the star towards the edge. READ MORE

  3. 8. Neutrino Hotspots in the Universe: a Sensitivity Study Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Kiana Ghiassi; Julia Salwén; [2023]
    Keywords : Astrophysics; Neutrino Astronomy; Particle Physics; Neutrinos; Blazars; Sensitivity Study; IceCube Neutrino Obesvatory;

    Abstract : In this report, we aim to assess the sensitivity and 5$\sigma$ discovery potential of IceCube, the largest neutrino observatory on Earth, and compare it with prior findings. Our thesis will focus on a point source analysis, exploring the energy and declination dependencies, with particular emphasis on high-energy neutrinos. READ MORE

  4. 9. Void Evolution and Cosmic Star Formation

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Joel Wasserman; [2023]
    Keywords : Void; Void Evolution; Cosmic Void; Star Formation Rate; Star Formation History; Cosmic Star Formation; Cosmology; Spherical Evolution Model; SvdW; Vdn; Excursion Set Theory; Excursion Set Formalism; Astrophysics; Astronomy; Cosmic Web; Matter Transfer; Tomrum; Tomrumsutveckling; Kosmiska Tomrum; Stjärnbildningshastighet; Stjärnbildningshistorik; Kosmisk stjärnbildning; Kosmologi; Sfärisk Evolutionsmodell; SvdW; Vdn; Exkursionsset teori; Exkursionsset Formalism; Astrofysik; Astronomi; Kosmiska Spindelnätet; Masstransport;

    Abstract : The rate at which stars have formed throughout the history of theuniverse is not constant, it started out slow, increased until around redshift ∼ 2 when it reversed and became slower again. The reason for this behaviour is still being investigated with various models and simulations usually based upon dark matter halos. READ MORE

  5. 10. Atomic Structure Calculations Using Configuration-Interaction And Many-Body Perturbation Theory For Spectral Modelling Of Neutron Star Mergers : Example Of Ce I - Iv

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Fredrik Plane; [2023]
    Keywords : Computational atomic physics; Atomic physics; Physics; Astronomy; Astrophysics; Neutron stars; Stars; Relativisitc atomic physics; Configuration-interaction; Perturbation theory; Many-body perturbation theory;

    Abstract : The binary neutron star merger of 2017 and its corresponding electromagnetic signature resembling that of a kilonova has been one of the most groundbreaking astrophysical occurrences in the last decade. Indications of r-process nucleosynthesis in this event presents new opportunities for learning about the astrophysical origin of heavy elements. READ MORE
