  1. 11. Oxidation of Graphite and Metallurgical Coke : A Numerical Study with an Experimental Approach

    University essay from KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Author : Yousef Ahmad; [2016]
    Keywords : Graphite oxidation rate; CFD; Dynamic coupling; Fluent; TGA;

    Abstract : At the royal institute of technology (KTH) in the department of applied process metallurgy, a novel modelling approach has been developed which allows a dynamic coupling between the commercial thermodynamic software Thermo-Calc and the commercial computational fluid dynamic (CFD) software Ansys Fluent, only referred to as Fluent in the study. The dynamic coupling approach is used to provide numerical CFD-models with thermodynamic data for the thermo-physical properties and for the fluid-fluid chemical reactions occurring in metallurgical processes. 2. 12. 3D-modeling of swing check valve with connection to dynamic behavior used in system studies

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Christoffer Björk; [2015]
    Keywords : Swing check valve; fluid mechanics; pressure surge; waterhammer; Fluent; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This Master’s Thesis is the result of the collaboration between The Technical Faculty of Lund University and TÜV NORD Sweden AB. Focus has been directed towards the nuclear industry where this thesis is one of several other Master’s Theses regarding the dynamic modeling of a swing check valve. READ MORE

  3. 13. Design of a fluid rotaryjoint prototype

    University essay from KTH/Maskinkonstruktion (Inst.)

    Author : Joakim Tänndal; [2014]
    Keywords : Rotary union; Rotary coupling; Flow loss; FRJ; RJ; Vätskeroterskarv; Vätskeroterstycke; Svivel; Roterstycke; Tryckförlust;

    Abstract : This thesis, which has been carried out at the department of research and development at Cobham Antenna Systems, comprises the development of a fluid rotary joint (FRJ) prototype and shall provide a thorough insight in relevant design aspects. Based on input parameters and objectives derived from an actual Cobham project, the possibility of manufacturing a fluid rotary joint in-house has been investigated. READ MORE

  4. 14. 2-way FSI simulations on a shock absorber check valve

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Tommy Nilsson; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A component of a hydraulic shock absorber, a check valve, is analyzed using both numerical simulations as well as experimental testing. A uid-structure interaction (FSI) model is set up in ANSYSWorkbench and is validated through physical experiments - both steady state and transient. READ MORE

  5. 15. Influence of In-vessel Pressure and Corium Melt Properties on Global Vessel Wall Failure of Nordic-type BWRs

    University essay from KTH/Kärnkraftssäkerhet

    Author : Andrei Goronovski; [2013]
    Keywords : Severe accident; Vessel failure; CRGT cooling; Thermo-Mechanical creep analysis;

    Abstract : The goal of the present study is to investigate the effect of different scenarios of core degradation in a Nordic-type BWR (boiling water reactor) on the reactor pressure vessel failure mode and timing. Specifically we consider the effects of (i) in-vessel pressure, (ii) melt properties. READ MORE
