  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Structural Analysis of the Fracture Sets in Gothenburg, Sweden: A Remote Sensing and Manual Lineament Approach

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Jacek Krysik; [2023-05-22]
    Keywords : Remote sensing; Manual lineament analysis; Fractal analysis; Structural; Regional geology; LiDAR; Gothenburg region;

    Abstract : The fracture-valley landscape within the Gothenburg region was analysed based on LiDAR-derived hillshade images as well as several sources of orthomosaics. Using a manual lineament interpretation approach and complimented with an objective fractal analysis software (FROST), the objective of the study was to characterise the regional fracture sets as well as attempt to link the sets to the complex regional geological history. 3. 3. The Structural Architecture of the Barsele Area, Sweden : Characterising the deformation events and mineralisation

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Jaide Derbyshire; [2021]
    Keywords : Barsele; Structural Geology; Mineralisation; Deformation;

    Abstract : Located at an important intersect between orogenic Au deposits in Sweden’s Gold Line and volcanicmassive sulphide (VMS) deposits in the Skellefte Mining District, the Barsele area is of high interest.Currently, the Barsele deposit consists of the Norra VMS deposit and 3 intrusive-hosted orogenic Audeposits: Avan, Central, and Skiråsen which are hosted in a 1876 ± 10 Ma early orogenic granodiorite(Thomas, et al. 4. 4. Feasibility of Enhanced Geothermal Systems in the Precambrian crystalline basement in SW Scania, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Hanna Kervall; [2021]
    Keywords : EGS; deep drilling; geothermal; petrology; petrophysical properties; Sveconorwegian; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The ability to evaluate the geothermal potential at a depth of five to six kilometres in the crystalline bedrock is crucial for the EGS-technology to be utilized in the future. This work focuses primarily on presenting expected geological conditions at great depths in southwestern Scania. The study is based on information from E. READ MORE

  5. 5. Kinetic interpretation of microstructures in the Gällivare area; implications for deformation phases and related metamorphic events.

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Linnéa Jansson Fagerlund; [2021]
    Keywords : Geology; Northern Sweden; Gällivare; Nautanen Deformation Zone; Fjällåsen Deformation Zone; Microstructures;

    Abstract : The goal of this study was to identify and describe different microstructures observed in samples from two major shear zones in the Gällivare area, namely the Nautanen Deformation Zone (NDZ), and the Fjällåsen deformation zone (FDZ). Thirteen samples were examined during this study. READ MORE
