  1. 6. Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) Analysis and Predicted Physical Properties of Shocked Quartz from the Chicxulub Impact Crater, Mexico

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Erina Prastyani; [2022]
    Keywords : EBSD; SEM; shocked quartz; quartz; CPO; seismic velocity; anisotropy; Chicxulub; impact crater; pole figures; MTEX toolbox; microstructural features; planar deformation feature; planar fracture; feather features;

    Abstract : As one of the most common minerals in crustal rocks, quartz has been widely used as an indicator for shock metamorphism. Shocked quartz is found in the Chicxulub impact crater, an impact crater that has been linked to the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction ~66 million years ago. READ MORE

  2. 7. Energy Usage in Railway Wayside Object Heating : Modeling of melting of Ice, Estimation of heating power requirement in Switch and Renewable energy feasibility for a Railway system

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Sidharth Kapoor; [2022]
    Keywords : Melting of Ice; Numerical modeling; Transient conjugate heat transfer; Transient analysis; CFD; Switch heating; Heat pumps in Railways; Issmältning; Numerisk modellering; Transient värmeöverföring; Transientanalys; CFD; Värmepumpar i järnvägar;

    Abstract : Trafikverket operates about 12000 Switches and crossings (SnCs) of which 6800 are equipped with an electrical heating system of 10−30kW power to keep SnCs functional throughout the winters by keeping them free of Snow/Ice. The energy consumption is approximately 200−130GWh/year costing approximately 10−15 million Euros annually. READ MORE

  3. 8. ‘Our own law is making us beggars’ : understanding the marginal experiences of governed, mine-side communities in Mutoko district, Zimbabwe

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Urban and Rural Development

    Author : Saymore Ngonidzashe Kativu; [2021]
    Keywords : unequal ecological exchange; lifeworld; granite mining; governance; mining anthropology; natural resources curse; natural resources governance; Zimbabwe;

    Abstract : There is a rising interest in the Global South, to ensure that mineral resources are governed to benefit local communities where they are extracted. The shared Africa Mining Vision and economic aspirations in Zimbabwe seeking to integrate equity in governing and extracting mineral resources reflects such interests. READ MORE

  4. 9. Method development for a tribological diffusion couple of rock and cemented carbide

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Alma Fjällström; [2021]
    Keywords : Diffusion couple; tribology; cemented carbide; rock; granite; sandstone; Silicon; rock drilling;

    Abstract : In a diffusion couple, the intimacy of the contact between the two parts is of high importance for the results. In a tribological contact, matter can transfer from one part to another and a very intimate contact is formed. READ MORE

  5. 10. Resolving temporal links between the Högberget granite and the Wigström tungsten skarn deposit in Bergslagen (Sweden) using trace elements and U-Pb LA-ICPMS on complex zircons

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Anders Plan; [2020]
    Keywords : Bergslagen; Wigström; Högberget; geochronology; geochemistry; U-Pb; REE; trace element; zircon; hydrothermal zircon; LA-ICPMS; SEM; skarn; tungsten; wolfram; scheelite; deposit; ore; critical raw material; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Combined U-Pb and REE trace element LA-ICPMS analyses were performed on zircons, from the scheelite-bearing Wigström skarn, associated micro-granitic dykes and the highly evolved parental Högberget (sensu stricto) granite. Combined systematic of zircon typology and microtextures, trace elements and isotopic chemistry suggest the presence of several diverse zircon types, spanning from early- to late- magmatic stage into a hydrothermal stage.
