  1. 11. Possibilities and Challenges in Temporal Control of XUV Pulses by Opto-optical Modulation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Anna Olofsson; [2018]
    Keywords : Quantum Control; Atomic physics; ultrashort pulses; attosecond science; ultrafast optics; nonlinear optics; opto-optic modulator; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Recent developments in opto-optical modulation technique calls for improved temporal control of light modulation processes of coherent XUV light. This thesis project evaluates an experimental method aimed at achieving redirection and amplitude modulation of XUV-light, by using precise determination of decay times in states of noble gases that are deemed suitable for opto-optical control. 2. 12. Evaluation of white-light generation as possible seed for a mid-infrared optical parametric chirped pulse amplifier

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik

    Author : Chuang Lu; [2017]
    Keywords : nonlinear linear optics; ultrafast optics; Mid-infrared generation; near-infrared; Optical parametric amplification; Optical Parametric Chirped-pulse Amplification; supercontinuum generation; white-light generation; laser induced filamentation; Dispersion-scan; nonlinear propagation; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : White-light spectra of different crystals, based on 1030-nm intense pump pulses have been investigated in order to derive a near-infrared seed for mid-infrared generation. Among ten crystals, YAG (yttrium aluminium garnet), KGW (potassium gadolinium tungstate) and YVO4 (yttrium orthovanadate) exhibit the most suitable properties for supercontinuum generation with high efficiency for spectral broadening as well as high tolerance to optical damage. 3. 13. Characterization of Terahertz Radiation Generated in an Organic Crystal

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Åsa Bengtsson; [2016]
    Keywords : Nonlinear optics; Terahertz radiation generation; Optical rectification; Difference frequency generation; Organic crystal; DSTMS; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum is an important research area allowing insights into fundamental science such as inter-molecular interactions, and with applications in the environmental, medical and security field. Using femtosecond lasers, it is possible to design compact and efficient terahertz generation schemes, resulting in few-cycle broadband pulses. READ MORE

  4. 14. Commissioning and Characterization of Two Undulators at the MAX IV 3 GeV Storage Ring

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik

    Author : Sara Mikaelsson; [2016]
    Keywords : accelerator physics; MAX IV; insertion device pertubations; beam dynamics; orbit correction; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Insertion devices have several undesirable effects on the beam dynamics of a synchrotron storage ring, and these must be compensated for in order to ensure long term stable operation. This master’s thesis concerns the two first insertion devices at the MAX IV facility, two in-vacuum undulators for the BioMAX and NanoMAX beamlines. READ MORE

  5. 15. Generation of Short Intense Terahertz pulses Through Optical Rectification

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Atomfysik

    Author : Carl Ekström; [2015]
    Keywords : Terahertz; THz; Optical Rectification; OR; Photonics; Optics; LiNbO3; Physics and Astronomy; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The lack of sources that generates intense THz pulses have in many years limited the field of THz science. Until recently intense THz pulses have been hard to generate using nonlinear crystals such as Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) with high efficiency. READ MORE
