  1. 1. Localized and extended states in finite-sized mosaic Wannier-Stark lattices

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Emrah Tortumlu; [2023]
    Keywords : Applied Physics; Condensed matter physics; quantum technology; quantum nanophotonics; localization; mobility edge; phase transition; Tillämpad Fysik; Kondenserade materiens fysik; kvantteknologi; kvantnanofotonik; lokalisering; fasövergång;

    Abstract : Anderson localization occurs when an otherwise conductive solid becomes insulatingdue to a sufficiently large degree of disorder in the medium. The electron band energy(as a function of disorder) at which this transition between extended and localizedelectron states occur is called the mobility edge (ME) and is energy-dependent only in3-dimensional systems. 2. 2. Spin-Glass Behaviour in Ordered Solids

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Materialteori

    Author : Erik Karpelin; [2023]
    Keywords : spin-glass; self-induced; variation; Edwards-Andersson; glassy;

    Abstract : The spin-glass is a peculiar magnetic phase, exhibiting non-trivial dynamics at low temperatures, characterized by an continuously evolving state without long-range order. The behavior requires some degree of disorder to occur, often in the way of impurities or random exchange energy between the spins. READ MORE

  3. 3. The effect of disorder on the axial anomaly in a lattice model in 1 + 1 dimensions

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Agnes Wattrang; [2023]
    Keywords : Axial anomaly; tight-binding model; semiclassical physics; correlated disorder.; Axial kiral anomali; tätbindningsmodell; semiklassisk fysik; korrelerad oordning;

    Abstract : This work investigates the effect of a disorder potential, that represents impurities/dislocations in the lattice, on the time-dependent signature of the axial anomaly in a one-band tight-binding model in one spatial dimension. The tight-binding model is solved numerically and the simulation results are compared with a semiclassical expression for the time-dependent axial density, n5(t), due to Nielsen and Ninomiya [1]. 4. 4. Quantum Transport in Topological Insulator Nanowires

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Sergi Pradas Rodriguez; [2023]
    Keywords : quantum transport; topological insulators; nanowires; numerical analysis; Kwant; etc.; kvanttransport; topologiska isolatorer; nanotrådar; numerisk analys; Kvant; etc.;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional topological insulators are materials that have a bulk band gap like a traditional insulator, but which hold topologically protected conducting surface states. In this thesis we present a numerical analysis of the surface states of topological insulator nanowires in the tight-binding approximation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lithium-ion Behaviour in Hard Carbon Anodes: Insights from 7Li NMR Spectroscopy

    University essay from KTH/Kemi

    Author : Adina Landström; [2023]
    Keywords : NMR spectroscopy; hard carbon; anode; lithium-ion battery; spin relaxation; NMR-spektroskopi; hårt kol; anod; litiumjonbatteri; spinnrelaxation;

    Abstract : Litiumjonbatterier (LIB) är viktiga komponenter i dagens teknologi och används för att driva en mängd olika elektroniska system, allt från datorer och mobiltelefoner till bilar och flygplan. Eftersom efterfrågan på effektiv energilagring fortsätter att växa finns ett fortsatt behov för forskning och utveckling inom området. READ MORE
