  1. 1. Petrography of impactites from the Dellen impact structure, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Robert Mroczek; [2023]
    Keywords : Dellen; Impact; structure; magnetite; apatite; shock waves; shock-metamorphic; features; Impactite; petrography; scanning electron microscope; SEM; geology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Identification and characterization of shock-metamorphic features in hypervelocity impact craters is important for our understanding of how shock waves interact with geologic materials and how impact craters form, which in turn is essential to our understanding of what role impact cratering played in the development of our solar system. Of particular interest are accessory minerals like apatite, which contains various volatiles that can affect the atmosphere of a body, or magnetite whose magnetic properties constitute a remote sensing indicator which allows us to study and understand the internal structures of distant bodies. 2. 2. Metamorphic microtextures and mineral assemblages in orthogneisses in NW Skåne – how do they correlate with technical properties?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Maria Eleni Taxopoulou; [2020]
    Keywords : granitic gneiss; Eastern Segment; Söderåsen; rock quality; quantitative analyses; grain size; aspect ratio; circularity; mineralogy; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Glacifluviala avlagringar har varit de vanligaste källorna för byggmaterial i Sverige under de senaste decennierna. De är dock ändliga resurser som måste bevaras eftersom de också fungerar som akvifärer. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of mineral parageneses and metamorphic textures in eclogite- to high-pressure granulite-facies marble at Allmenningen, Roan, western Norway

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Stylianos Karastergios; [2020]
    Keywords : Western Gneiss Region; Vestranden; Roan; Caledonides; marble; calc-silicate; metabasic; petrography; SEM-EDS; mineral chemistry; mineral equilibrium; P–T estimate; devolatilization; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Roan peninsula in western Norway, Vestranden, is known for exposing one of the deepest parts of the Scandinavian Caledonian orogen, similar to the Western Gneiss Region. Throughout the Roan area, eclogites and high-pressure granulite- and amphibolite-facies gneisses occur, associated with supracrustal rocks including marbles, calc-silicate rocks and amphibolites. 4. 4. Temporal and genetical constraints of the Cu-Co Vena-Dampetorp deposit, Bergslagen, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Dino Leopardi; [2020]
    Keywords : Bergslagen; Vena; Dampetorp; Cu-Co; sulphide melting; Bastnäs-type; cobaltite; arsenopyrite; titanite dating; sulphide mineralization; sulphide re-mobilisation.; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The Bergslagen Province is known for containing major Zn-Pb-Ag and Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag sulphide mineralizations with associated iron-oxide skarns and a lot of research have focused on understanding them. However, Cu-Co deposits like the Vena-Dampetorp deposit have received less attention. READ MORE

  5. 5. The presence of REE in titanite, garnet and epidote from the Aitik mine tailings

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Rasmus Klapp; [2018]
    Keywords : REE; titanite; Aitik; LA-ICP-MS;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the rare earth element (REE) distribution within titanite, garnet and epidote from the Aitik mine tailings, the waste material of a large porphyry-copper deposit mined in northern Sweden. The mine is an open pit operation with a low grade – high tonnage ore that generates roughly 36 Mt of tailings annually. READ MORE
