  1. 1. Techno-Economic Analysis of Dye Separation in Textile Recycling

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära

    Author : David Lundberg; [2024]
    Keywords : Dye; Membrane filtration; Electrocoagulation; Techno-economic analysis; Pre-feasibility study; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This study determines the technical and economic feasibility of separating dye from a process filtrate in industrial textile recycling using electrocoagulation or sequences of membrane filtration with microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The lower requirements for treating this stream, compared to previously researched dyehouse effluents, left treatments not good enough for dyehouses viable for this process filtrate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Waste or Want: Does processing have an effect on the desirability of upcycled food products? : a Swedish consumer acceptance study

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Joséphine Lefrancq Fröjd; [2024]
    Keywords : Upcycled foods; food processing; consumer acceptance; contingent valuation method; consumer behavior;

    Abstract : Food waste presents a significant obstacle to the food system’s transition to sustainability. With an ability to mitigate industrial food waste and its effects, the concept of upcycled food aims to safely adapt elements from the waste streams for human consumption by transforming them into ingredients to be used in novel ‘upcycled’ food products. 3. 3. Towards Water Resource Recovery Facilities : Environmentally Extended Techno-Economic Assessment of Emerging Sewage Sludge Management Technologies in Sweden

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Harry Tibbetts; [2023]
    Keywords : Circular Economy; Waste Valorisation; Systems Analysis; LCA; MFA; EFA; TEA; Hydrothermal Carbonisation; Cirkulär ekonomi; Waste Valorisation; Systems Analysis; LCA; MFA; EFA; TEA; Hydrotermal Carbonization;

    Abstract : Municipal sewage sludge (MSS) management varies widely between countries and legislative regimes. Within the European directive for sewage treatment France applies over half of MSS to arable land, while The Netherlands has banned the practice (Kelessidis et al, 2012). READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterization of Compost from Reusable Industrial Streams: : physical, Nutrient, and Microbial Properties

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Author : Ellen Ek Moreau; [2023]
    Keywords : Spent mushroom compost; apple orchard waste; soil amendment; compost optimization; circular agriculture;

    Abstract : The increasing global population, combined with soil degradation, poses challenges to food security, and raises concerns about the excessive and long-term use of conventional fertilizers. Evaluating sustainable alternative by-products for their soil-improving properties could offer a potential solution, particularly for Swedish fruit producers who can tap into local waste streams as a circular source of plant nutrients. 5. 5. Quality of Spent Mushroom Compost Amended with Organic Material- Effect on Nutrient Content and Plant Growth

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Author : Rasha Kamel; [2023]
    Keywords : Apple Waste; Wood Chips; Microbial Content; pH; Pseudomonas; General Bacterial Flora; General Fungal Flora; Electrical Conductivity; Nutrient Content; Bulk Density; Porosity; Water Holding Capacity;

    Abstract : Peat, as a non-renewable growing media, poses environmental concerns due to extraction and decomposition processes, leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions. Alternatives growing media with potential to replace or reduce the use of peat are of great need. READ MORE
