  1. 6. Records of environmental change and sedimentation processes over the last century in a Baltic coastal inlet

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Hanna Nilsson; [2019]
    Keywords : Baltic Sea; eutrophication; coastal areas; archipelago; laminated sediments; nutrient inputs; carbon and nitrogen content; biogenic silica; sedimentation; environmental impact; marine geology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The marine ecosystem in the Baltic Sea is affected by multiple stress factors, e.g. eutrophication and deoxygenation, overfishing and anthropogenic pollution. Here we evaluate the short-term trends of dissolved oxygen in bottom waters and changes in the primary productivity within a coastal inlet in the Baltic Sea. READ MORE

  2. 7. Geochemical and palaeomagnetic characteristics of a Swedish Holocene sediment sequence from Lake Storsjön, Jämtland

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Joakim Robygd; [2015]
    Keywords : Jämtland; geochemistry; palaeomagnetism; PSV; sedimentation rate; Holocene development; geochronology; climate change; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : As a part of a French-Swedish collaboration project to reconstruct middle to northern European climate variations during the Holocene, a sediment sequence from Lake Storsjön, Jämtland was retrieved and analysed for geochemical and palaeomagnetic properties. The subsampled sequence, composed of one freeze core and three Niederreiter piston cores, revealed information of both climatic, environmental and anthropogenic changes over the past 10,800 years. 3. 8. Assessment of radionuclide content in waste barrels using the Canberra In-Situ Object Counting System (ISOCS)

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Sjukhusfysikerutbildningen; Lunds universitet/Medicinsk strålningsfysik, Lund

    Author : Marcus Persson; [2015]
    Keywords : Medicine and Health Sciences;

    Abstract : In order to store radioactive waste its contents need to be known. Determining radioactive waste can be achieved by different means. The most common method is using a detector to measure the gamma photons produced by the radionuclides in the waste. READ MORE

  4. 9. Influence of depositional mobility (downwashing) on the accumulation of atmospherically supplied elements in peat cores: an experimental approach

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Keyao Chen; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The potential influence of downwashing on atmospherically deposited elements is of rare focus compared with other geochemical processes related to peat. Downwashing may cause a rapid downward movement of atmospherically supplied elements before they bond to the peat organic substrate and thus reduce the reliability of age-depth models that rely on atmospherically supplied radioisotopes (e. 5. 10. Radioaktivt nedfall efter Tjernobylolyckan och den påverkan det haft på hjortdjur Cervidae och de människor som konsumerar köttet

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health

    Author : Sandra Lennartsson; [2014]
    Keywords : radioaktivt nedfall; Tjernobyl; cesium; hjortdjur; Cervidae; jägare; riskpopulation; radioactive fallout; Chernobyl; caesium; deer; hunters; risk population;

    Abstract : Kärnkraftsolyckan i Tjernobyl 1986 spred radioaktivt nedfall över Europa och Sverige som kom att tas upp i ekosystemet av växter, djur och människor. I Sverige innebar det att älg (Alces alces), rådjur (Capreolus capreolus) och ren (Rangifer tarandus) fick förhöjda halter av Cesium-137, 137Cs, som i sin tur togs upp av de människor som åt av köttet.
