    Abstract : The North Atlantic Caledonides are a continent-continent collision type orogeny found in WesternScandinavia, Svalbard, Greenland and the British Isles. They are thought to have formed as a result of a complex history consisting of repeated ocean opening and closure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pressure-Temperature-time Constraints on the Deep Subduction of the Seve Nappe Complex in Jämtland and southern Västerbotten, Scandinavian Caledonides

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Johanna Holmberg; [2017]
    Keywords : Seve Nappe Complex; COSC-1; Raman spectroscopy; QuiG barometry; kyanite-garnet gneiss; Lu-Hf garnet geochronology; Seveskollan; COSC-1; Raman spektroskopering; QuiG barometri; kyanit-granatförande gnejs; Lu-Hf granat geokronologi;

    Abstract : The Scandinavian Caledonides are defined by long transported thrust sheets emplaced in a nappe stratigraphic succession onto the Paleozoic Baltica platform, as a result of the collision between the paleo-continents Baltica and Laurentia. This Palaeozoic collisional orogen is nowadays exposed at mid-crustal levels, thus provides an excellent ground for in situ studies of mountain building processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Field relations, petrography and 40Ar/39Ar cooling ages of hornblende in a part of the eclogite-bearing domain, Sveconorwegian Orogen

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Nasim Mozafari Amiri; [2013]
    Keywords : Sveconorwegian; retrograde metamorphism; eclogite; Svarten Zone; ductile deformation; Ar-Ar dating.; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : High-pressure metamorphism and deformation of the Ullared Deformation Zone (UDZ) in the Eastern segment of the Sveconorwegian Orogen, southwest Sweden is evidenced by ~ 970 Ma retro-eclogite found in association with upper amphibolite and high-pressure granulite facies rocks. Petrographic, structural and geochronological studies of the UDZ were carried out to better understand the regional metamorphism and deformation history with focus on a ~N-S trending part of the zone influenced by a late stage of deformation during Sveconorwegian orogeny, namely the Svarten Zone.
